Well, all I know is I love ELP, but would have they been better if Hendrix, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer ever happened?

I don't know. I couldn't really judge based on what happened. If there was maybe one song that HELP had played together, I could have an idea of what their sound is and if it is good to me.

It would never have been... you can't have more than one prima donna a band.  Keith Emerson had enough time sharing the spotlight with Greg's voice... he sure wouldn't have shared it with an attention hogger like Hendrix... He got rid of Davy O'List (the guitarist for the Nice) because he couldn't get Davy to tone it down.... those knives would of definitely been going by Jimi's head...

mmm...I don´t know how it would have worked... because E,L&P are far more orchestra like music than Hendrix, who´s style was very influenceted in blues...but I could be wrong...

Never worked........Hendrix and Emerson would kill each other after one album

I thought ELP was a band "composed" entirely of primadonnas?

Jimi would've slapped that short white boy down!

Anyway, I don't think it would've worked. It would've imploded. Keith and the guys couldn't hold on to Steve Howe, either. I like what I hear the way it is.

It would have been Hendrix,Emerson,Lake and Mitchell ''HELM'' ..not very interesting! Palmer was recruited after Lake and Emerson failed to get Hendrix interested.

So would it have worked? Yes it would have.Emerson had massive respect for Hendrix so Hendrix would have been top dog.Musically it would have been a lot less interesting to me though as I think Emerson would not have been able to develop things they way he did in ELP.The music would have to have been more tied to old style r n b (less prog) and Emo would have to have taken on a more Jon Lord style role in the band.More organ less (or no) synths.

Agreed ! Do not see Emerson sharing the virtuoso spotlight with anybody else! HELP would've lasted two  days! But this would've been an interesting band!

O'List was great in that first Nice album (my fave album where Emerson appears), but he got sacked, never to be heard of again in record bar a short collaboration with Roxy Music.

HENDRIX and EMERSON would quarrel alot as they would argue who'd do a solo.

Hammond Organ vs Guitar the concert would end due to the violence and you would have to feel sorry for Lake and Palmer as they only could do a rhythm section cause Jimi has all the Guitar duties unless Lake steps in.

Would have been unique, and problably better than Asia (also a sort of virtuoso supergroup). They did admire each other, Hendrix and ELP, didn't they?

Still, it wouldn't have worked. Soon Hendrix wouldn't burn his guitar anymore and Emerson would have stopped stabbing knives in his keyboard: instead they would destroy each others instruments after a while.

Bottomline: I'm glad it didn't happen. In ELP it was unique that the guy at the keys was the hero, the most important soloist. That hadn't been done before a lot.

Hendrix's style and approach would have acted as a nice counter-point to Emerson's complete keyboard domination of the music.  At the very least, they would have been interesting to hear.

There is no doubt that the egos would have gotten in the way after one lp....but what an lp it could've been. A shame it didn't happen.

Yeah it would have been a lot like blind faith, one great Lp and then the group would have fallen apart most likely.

I do feel that Hendrix is THAT GREAT, sure he's a great guitarist and everything, but imagine Steve Howe or Wakeman in ELP :)

I say who cares. The music would have been much different if Hendirx was in.

But I would have been able to hear more guitar solos, not keyboard solos.

No. Hendrix would have greatly brought thier music down. They were three visionaries and he wasn't. Hendrix didn't even read music. Plus, he would have had an enormous ego even though the other 3 were more talented.

I can't see Hendrix and Emerson being the in the same band, they'd be arguing over the solos. Then Hendrix and Lake would have argued over the singing, and then the guitar solos.

How about FELP, or Fripp, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. That would have been good.

Posted By: S Lang
Date Posted: September 25 2005 at 16:55

FELP? Now, that's more likely to have been interesting! Hendrix and ELP have nothing in common though.

Hendrix and Miles Davis are a better match and Miles always regretted that they didn't have the chance to record together, due to Jimi's short life span.

Actually there's an old folklore legend that Jimi and Miles did get together in NY for a session in '69 right after Woodstock. Never been confirmed though. Personally I think that's just what it is, folklore.

No!

Hendrix sure is the guitar God from outer space... but the band is/wasn't in need of a guitarist in that manner, not that kind of a guitarist, like I've said before it would've been cool to see Steve Hillage with ELP just for a show... then back to basics...

I don't think it could be better... it's awesome damn it!
