TRANSATLANTIC FLIES AGAIN!!!
PROGRESSIVE ROCK SUPERGROUP
REUNITES FOR NEW STUDIO ALBUM.

POSSIBLE LATE 2009 RELEASE PLANNED.

TRANSATLANTIC, the progressive rock "supergroup" comprised of Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings) and Neal Morse (ex-Spock's Beard), have reunited after a 7 year hiatus to begin work on a brand new studio album.

The band began work on the album in early April in Nashville and are expected to have it released by year's end if all goes as planned.

TRANSATLANTIC have previously released two studio albums to tremendous critical and fan accl.. 2000's SMPTe and 2001's Bridge Across Forever. The band toured on the heels of each release with an American Tour in 2000 and a European Tour in 2001 and released subsequent Live DVD's/CD's from both tours before going their separate ways for an indefinite hiatus which lasted almost the entire decade.

E-Dub, if you are reading this a big ClapClapClap to you for your detective work good sir.  It just goes to show that those hours whiled away in airport lounges can be useful!

This is brilliant news.  Can't wait for the album.  If it's anywhere near as good as the other two I'll be well pleased.

this is indeed good news. Morse needs something like this, too. Should be a killer disc.

Eric Poirot? E-Dub Holmes? This item was pre-investigating genius and seemingly possible thanks to 1- succint observations 2- being at the right place at the right time and 3- pure chance. In all cases, our super-spy (aka Marillion fanboy) was there and got even outside source confirmation .
We kneel at your shrine, sir !!!!!!! Very proud of you !

cool! ive admittingly been on the fence with Transatlantic, liked some of it, wasnt too crazy about the rest. But i havent listened to their albums in a long time, and recently got really into the Flower Kings with The Sum of No Evil, so maybe i should go back.

who knows, with a 7 year break, they might outdo themselves

Thanks, Guys. I do think it's cool that I'm being credited as 'cracking the story'; however, it really was dumb luck. I'm still surprised that I had the maracas to actually get up and go after him. My feet were moving before I even realized what I was doing.

I do think what solidified it with me is when I text my friend who ran into Pete in Montreal and said he was flying to Nashville. After that I knew the stars were in perfect alignment.

Oh man, I just know Dream theater and Transatlantic are going to release KILLER ALBUMS. Every time Portnoy decides to make a side-project album it means that he is over-inspired, which means that he puts his best on his main band and the rest is the rest.

Oh boy, oh boy, I'm just feeling that 2009 is going to be awesome.

It's definitively great news. However, I wish for these to not happen:

_Preachy songs with Neal as lead vocalist
_Overly Pretentious "look at me" drum solo.
_The word "Cosmic" used as lyrics (Stolt) ;)

Luckily, these never happened in their first two albums.

So a 40 minute song entitled God's Cosmic love for drums is not a good thing, right?Tongue

What's nice is that if they are all flying in, they have material and are not going to mess around and draw out the recording.  I am sure time is tight like the previous albums so we shouldn't have to wait forever to get our hands on it.  Can not wait.Smile

Thanks for that.  Most of us probably thought this would never happen then out of the clear blue sky they spring it on us and a lot of people's wishes came true.   Eight years we hoped it would happen.  Could they at least throw us a bone?  This is a pretty big deal to a lot of people.  Morse's sight isn't even working and the TA sight has not been updated at all.

Really? Wow, so he expresses his discontent for a politician by punishing the fans who are paying his salary just because they live in the same country? How is that better than any kind of bigotry or racism? I'm not crazy about Ahmadinejad, but if I had a few thousand fans in Iran I wouldn't turn down the chance to play for them...In fact, I wasn't crazy about Bush either, but I wouldn't have refused a gig here in the U.S.!

Not big on the band but give me Transatlantic over each member's respective band any day of the week. Maybe even MORE drum solos on this new release?

Serious though, if it's on par with their debut it's definitely worth buying.

I don't want to edit it. I just wanted to divert this conversation away from that far-beyond-dead-horse topic of Daniel Gildenlow and various levels of assumptions regarding his dislike for American policy, leadership, or existence. That's all. I didn't realize that anybody past the third grade took offense at the term "dork," though admittedly, it could be a much stronger term in some other English dialect. Beats me. Sorry for the name-calling. No insult meant to anyone.

Gildenlow refused to tour in America because Homeland Security was requiring that he get fingerprinted before entering the country.

His decision to not tour here because of that pissed me off, because I feel he sh*t on all his fans here in the US.So I stopped buying PoS albums or any PoS merch, the hell with him.

It appears super group Transatlantic seems to keep aiming higher and higher. Their newest album, Whirlwind, to be released in late October, will contain one 77 minute epic piece. If they can pull off a compelling track of that length, I will have the greatest respect for them. I hope they can do it.

A 77-minute epic, eh? That worries me a bit, but for how strong their epics were, especially considering the time frame in which all of them were written, I think it may be great.

From what I understand, Neal was working on this song for a few years, but when he presented it to the boys, they started dramatically changing and upgrading it. So it's a team effort, but at the core a Neal tune, so it should not be too meandering. I have faith.

I'm not surprised they'd release a single, 77 minute epic.  It was almost inevitable.  Hopefully it will be good.  I have faith in them, but will listen with an open mind.  Definitely have to go for the special edition.

Yeah, why would you not go for the double CD? I mean, four new songs, if nothing else?

Stolt said on his blog earlier that certain content on the new album will most likely rais a plenty of eyebrows. I guess this whas what he had in mind Shocked

I do believe they can pull it off. Stolt of course wrote the 60-minute "Garden of Dreams" along with Tomas Bodin. And that track is, despite its enormous length, solid and truly epic and great (at least if you ask me). Stolt's writing-skills combined with not one but three other epic guys should therefore logically be enough to make a terrific 77-minute epic.
Ooh I can't wait until oct .........

One thing that this has got me noticing, is that the previous TA albums also had bonus discs. Do anyone know where to find them? Amazon doesn't seem to have them ...

I am SO excited!!!! This is the most anticipated release of the decade...no...of my lifetime so far. I can't wait! Transatlantic got me into prog and they broke up shortly before I discovered them. I thought there was no hope of a reunion. Now I hear about a 77 minute epic and an awesome bonus disc. The moment I  hear I can preorder the special edition, I will. This is going to be awesome!

Hurricane Bill?

Anyway I am ecstatic about this release. 77 minutes? What in the world is wrong with those guys? There is no doubt I will be getting the special edition and I have never been this excited about a release.

My most anticipated release of 2009, but have to admit at being a little disappointed with the cover art. I like the reoccurring airship theme, but this is just recycled from Bridge. They simply plopped it into another background.

Still, this is going to be absolutely killer.

Perhaps a 10 hour mp3.   Wink

wow , a 77 minute epic!!!

Their second album disappointed me, but I still have faith in Neal Morse/Roine Stolt. Neal Morse's solo career is full of great albums (especially the question mark one) and Stolt was in charge of the latest Flower Kings album.
