There is no rhyme nor reason to the albums selected for this poll, just some of my favourites. Of this list, which one is your favourite? Or, if I have not selected your first choice from the bands or artists, which one should be on there? For example, should Live be there instead of Seconds Out? Or, if there is an outstanding live LP from an artist not on the list, who is it and what is the LP?

Of those on the list, I'd go with Seconds Out - just ahead of The Thieving Magpie.
But I think that BJH Live, Camel's A Live Record, Renaissance's Live at Carnegie Hall, Wishbone Ash's Live Dates and Gentle Giant's Playing the Fool are all better. And if you want the ultimate live CD (even if it's not prog), Runrig's Once in a Lifetime is THE daddy; 45 minutes of utter genius. Finally, for the ultimate live DVD, IQ's Stage is utterly, completely and totally amazing (I'm watching it for about the 20th time this week and I simply never get bored of it).

Also... Ummagumma, Pompei, DSOT and Pulse; Coma Divine; Stage; 12:5; Encore; June 1, 1974; 801 Live; Different Stages; The Roundhouse Tapes; Emperial Live Ceremony; Nocturne; Living Ornaments '81; Rust Never Sleeps; Live Bait For The Dead and The Black Parade Is Dead... to name but a few.

Despite being a mad Genesis fan, out of that list The Who's Live At Leeds best captures a real, live, naked feel as Second's Out, wonderful though the music is, was 'doctored' with some discreet overdubbing and also would have benefitted from a meatier, more guitar-slanted mix in my view.
My fave that's not on the list is 801 Live, a truly magnificent live recording.

Some very very good ones nominated there Dean.
From the list, Seconds Out. The much-mentioned Live At Leeds is a belter too. Always preferred Yesshows to Yessongs myself though...........

Yessongs. Simply the best album ever released by one group. With the exception of Perpetual Change this is the definitive version of all of the tracks contained IMO. And what brilliant tracks they are. 36 years later I still get the same thrill listening to this album.
* a huge gap *
Who Live at Leeds. I especially love the original version even though the various CDs contain a lot more excellent content. The original just fits together so beautifuly - proof that less is sometimes more. My Generation is, of course, one of the most brilliant exhibitions of the lead guitar ever produced. 15 minutes of sheer genius from Pete Townshend. This track on its own is enough to put the the Who near the top of the prog rock tree. Goosebumps.

Pompeii is possibly the greatest live stuff ever (but not a regular "live album", though). I only have some Zepp performances to put up there, but they're not prog to fit this poll.
My favourite regular live album in prog is Genesis Live, which I wonder why it's not getting any mentions here. Gotta love that raw power!

Yeah, Genesis live was good (though none of the tracks were better than the studio versions). There were a number of live albums of similar quality in the early 70s - Uriah Heep, Curved Air, Focus, Ten Years After.

Thanks for all the replies so far - keep them coming!
I've got to be honest, I'm really surprised that Seconds Out is in the lead at the moment. Certainly, I think that Live at Leeds is far superior. I do, however, think it is better than Genesis Live, which was always a disappointment to me and, certainly, the band who were not happy with its release. The best of Genesis Live from the Gabriel era had to wait until the first boxset release.
I voted for the Floyd Wall boxset, and I am again surprised at how fewvotes this has got. I was actually at those gigs, and they were incredible, and I think the recording really does them justice.

I'm only really familier with two albums up there, Secret World Live and The Thieving Magpie. SWL is good but I havnt heard it for years so I cant remember it too well and TTM is poor, such a flat production and mixing.
My personal favourit is Pain of Salvations 12:5. Other notables being King Crimson- the Great Deceiver, Dream Theater- Live Scenes From New York, Marillion- Real to Reel, Threshold- Critical Energy, The Tangent- Going Off On One, Muse- HAARP, Queensryche- Operation:LIVECrime, Van der Graaf Generator- Real Time, Pain of Salvation- Ending Themes and The Gathering- Superheat and Sleepy Buildings.

Not to mention those fantastic live bands like Gong, Hawkwind, Van der Graaf Generato, Magma, King Crimson or the many live albums of Peter Hammill

I think I said this a while ago on another thread. "Meet the Flower Kings" is impressive if for no other reason than it is hard to believe they are playing their choice epics LIVE! There is such precision in their playing (and the recording is impeccable) that it is really hard to believe that it is a live album...

Cheers - I personally prefer Rush in Rio, and I really can't stand Floyd without Waters. To me they lost their creative edge and raison d'etre when he left.
However, I did deliberately only choose one live LP from bands such as Rush, when I actually own all of them, and, for example, Seconds Out instead of Genesis Live to prompt debate and discussion - seems like it worked

Yessongs from this list by a wide margin. I'd say definitive versions of Siberian Khatru, Perpetual Change, Long Distance Runaround/the Fish, Yours is No Disgrace and Starship Trooper. Very good versions of Heart of the Sunrise, And You and I, Close to the Edge and the Wakeman solo. Poor versions of Roundabout and Seen All Good People.
From off the list my fave would be Genesis Live. I like every version there better than the studio, especially the guitar work in Musical Box and Hogweed. And Renaissance Live at Carnegie should be there too. Their version of Ashes Are Burning in a knockout.

I'm disappointed that 'A Live Record' by Camel is not on the list.
In my opinion this is the greatest live album ever recorded. It was originally a double vinyl LP but has been available for a few years as a double CD. The second disc is a complete performance of The Snow Goose with a large string orchestra. It surpasses the original album in power and emotional impact. Andy Latimer's guitar playing is just beautiful. One of those rare occasions where the recorded live performance is far superior to the origianl studio recordings. I would go as far as saying that this is the best album that Camel ever recorded!

I went for JT's "Bursting Out" here: at least, the sound mix wasn't unfairly low for the guitarist's input (unlike GENESIS') ;-))
