Hello,
I'm just wondering what the criteria is for becoming a PA Collaborator. I have upwards of 110 reviews, and should technically be in the 100 Top Collaborators list for amount of reviews. Can someone message me concerning what I would need to do to upgrade my account?

I can mention something to the admins to take a look at your reviews for consideration for Prog Reviewer status.

From what I have seen, you would fully qualify for promotion as a PR. Your reviews are indeed good , not just plentiful.

That's an FAQ CF. See the FAQ's thread (in the rules section)!

Well, some of us actively seek it out, others start out as Prog Reviewers then get promoted at a later time, and then there are those like myself who are kind of just ''picked'' to be a Collaborator based on past activity in the community.

I would say based on what I've seen of your reviews, you would be qualified for a Prog Reviewer promotion. Good luck, man. Smile

110 reviews is easily PR status in my mind.
I got picked for a Collab position based on my knowledge of Prog Metal obviously, heh.

Not necessarily anyone on this site though.  And by sleep I could literally be talking about sleep...

I dunno.  One night I was drunk, and the next day I woke up a collab.  Still not sure how that happened.  Still not as bad as waking up in a strange place next to a really strange person and not remembering.  Or is it? Tongue

A guy I knew some years ago has one of the "best" such stories I've ever heard. He wakes up one morning, with a hangover of major proportions, besides a chick he doesn't know at all - and when he looks out the window there's nothing familiar to be seen at all - but he can see that he's in the second floor of a house.

He gets dressed and starts looking for the kitchen, as he's pretty thirsty after last night's heavy partying.

In the kitchen he gets some warm, friendly greetings from the parents and siblings of the girl; and tries his best at being friendly and answering for himself in that horrible hungover state - and manages to get along pretty well.

Eventually he finds out that he's in a town close to 150 miles away from where he lives. To make matters even worse, he's broke as a pauper - not a penny in his pockets.

Not a morning he remembers fondly - but one he'll remember until the day he dies I believe ;-)

I was asked by Max after only writing a few reviews and took a week to decide but that was when the site was in it`s infancy. I also write bios. Maybe check up on missing bios and impress the hell out of the admins by writing a killer missing bio.

'Special' collaborators got special treatment

Has anyone bothered to read this guy`s profile or any of his reviews? I took some time to go over his profile ( he`s 16 years old ) and some of his reviews ( including a good one on Signals by Rush )  even though I`m not a prog metal freak but I think the kid has the right motivation. He`s got my vote for all it`s worth. Big smile

I've read a number of his reviews as he was putting them out a massive pace, and they're all quality. If he maintains his interest in the site, I think it's a no-brainer that he should be a reviewer. I've certainly bounced in and out of other sites enough times that at least some sustain should be part of the selection process, though.

I don't think he should be a prog reviewer.

If he is, he'll supersede me on the one hundred most prolific reviews list.

And I can't have that.

Or I might even catch up. I do 1 or 2 a day. Which one should I do this afternoon? Russian Circles or Ocean Machine?

I write 1-3 reviews a day.  I don't necessarily post them that day, but I write them.  If I dumped all the reviews I have stored up, I'd make Sean Trane look like a newbie.

Okay, maybe not quite that...

How do you have time for that?

Between work and studies, personal affairs to take care of and a very limited time for myself, I don't have time for reviewing much and I have a small stock of promo's to review.
I personally need time to review as I don't like to just write a short thing but rather put time and effort into it like many others do here (including you) and so it takes me time to write them.

I really envy all those who seem to have time for this.

I used to have the time for two reviews on a daily basis, without neglecting school (well, the important classes, at least Wink), study, reading, etc.

But now I'm utterly blank.

I sit at my desk and work on it in between appointments. It takes me half a day to do a 400-1000 word review but the time allows me to at least scan through the album twice while writing. Average day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Haven't thought of this... I'll ask my wife's permission to neglect her...

On a serious note, that is also why I have little time to work as hard as I did in the ZART in the previous years (and also assisting other teams) when I used to add bands on a regular basis and do more team work. Now I can't commit to it due to lack of time and I'm very jealous of all the other team members which seem to be here day and night. I come in here several times a day but it's for short periods each time and only for things that take short time, like post news, recommendations, add an album, give my opinion of a band in the ZART, but that's it and I wish I could go back to the acitivity level I had before. Now I feel bad for not posting the reviews for the promos as quickly as I did

.

On topic - the opening poster should definitely be a Prog Reviewer.

I pretty much stay logged on, and I write reviews once I feel I've heard an album enough to do so.  I've got a respectable library, and I pick things up on the cheap (I just got a Muse album and the new Mastodon album for less than a case of beer).

Anyway, our Mr. Conor should be among the prog reviewers.  I delight in reading what he posts, even if I don't know the album in question.

I only write reviews by accident these days. If I`m in one of the offices I use and get sidetracked I`ll write one. Right now, there are a few that need fixing up so I kind of feel guilty writing fresh ones. Plus I`m working on a top secret project for the site right now which is consuming a considerable amount of my time Cool.

As I said before think this guy should be a prog reviewer. He even lists his occupation as composer/songwriter so his interest in music has some depth. The enthusiasm is definitely there.  I`ve seen other people on the site with fancy titles with only a handful of reviews.

Me too. It's not a good time to be a jourmalist in Gordon Brown's glorious kingdom of the greater UK.

All I can get is part time work as a chef. I won't say where I work but if any members come to Norwich to eat avoid the lasagne or anything containing pasta, just in case I made it (I can't do Italian - just can't get it right).

Can't speak for the rest of the vets Damo but as an (ex at the moment) professional writer I'd prefer to selfishly enjoy the site than write reviews or whatever.

You know the saying a builder doesn't finish work, go home and build a brick wall in his garden... it's that sort of thing for me.

Anyway, just about everything I've got (and I've got a heck of a lot) has been reviewed by someone else on PA - my two cents wouldn't add much, I feel.

And as for attempting to be a collaborator, I am to the Internet what the Venus de Milo is to sleeves.

Mind you, If the title of psychedelic/hard rock/Ladbroke Grove scene specialist was up for grabs, I'd kill for it.Wink

Be interesting to hear what any of my fellow oldies think about this.

I know!  Rico won't stop harassing me!  He calls me at 3 AM to ask if I evaluated a certain band!  He threatens to send people to "meet and greet" me if I don't write bios on time!  And worst of all, he says Kansas isn't even prog! Cry

The reason I don`t write that many reviews apart from not really having that much time is for the very reason that you mention above, what is my two cents going to matter when there`s, say, when there are over 700 reviews for Dark Side Of The Moon.  I actually wrote a review for it just for fun to see what would come out of my head. I did the same for Mike Oldfield`s Tubular Bells and Tales From Topographic Oceans and it kind of suprised me how they turned out. Now I try to review albums with less than 30 ratings so as not to become redundant. There`s at least 20 - 30 albums that have been reviewed by me alone on the site. I think I`ll just pull something at random this evening out of the dark recesses of my collection and review it no matter what it is.

Being Senior  Member have his advantages:

1.- You still can write reviews and if you don't like it you can PM an Admin to do the ugly job to erase, not you.

2.- You can be absence from the forum and from write reviews a long period of time and you can return and nothing came wrong with that.

3.- You can propose bands to be added and you do not have to evaluate, you simply put the enough info and samples and someone else do the job.

So, have the membership of Senior Member really have his advantages

Just for clarification . . . as far as I know, any Collaborator that has been 'demoted' has either asked to be removed as one, or violated a conditional rule. The Admins here don't go around the site stripping folks of their ranks for kicks. Wink

I'm not saying this was how you meant the comment, but I just wanted to make that aspect of it clear for those who may read this and get confused.

As for the job 'requirements' . . . I do what I can, but myself, like everyone else here, is doing this because I enjoy the music, and this site is important to me. It's a volunteer job; a choice. We all have lives away from this site, so at times, we can't dedicate ourselves to it as often as we would like, but from what I understand, the only way someone is taken off of the Collaborator train is if they simply violate what is expected of them, which doesn't happen very often.

As long as you are positively contributing to the site, you should be fine.

Thanks folks for your honest opinions. Big smile
I suggest that everyone here (either collaborators or not) wants to contribute toward PA if he can... Star
But sadly sometimes he's too busy to do so... Cry

Every collaborator has a responsibility to make PA better as soon as possible, as Martin, Micky, Robert, and Ian said.

To be a helper is my pleasure.
Writing reviews and biographies I've enjoyed...but I'm afraid I can always do so sooner... Shocked

If I can get an offer, I'm very glad.
That is, some of members here can give their confidence to me. Big smile

Hehe...senior member may be my best place...? Embarrassed

I have discovered (in the pursuit of knowledge and out of idle curiosity) that I can knock people down to Newbie status without affecting their post-count. What I have yet to determine is whether they bounce up the ladder to Groupie or jump straight Senior on their very next post or remain as Newtbies in perpetuity (sadly all the previous volunteers for this experiment were unable to post again on the forum for unrelated reasons... newts have moderately dexterity and with time could master the QWERTY keyboard, the problem for them is they can never remember their password, this is more noticable in the cases where I've changed their passwords then PMd them the new one). Volunteers willing to act as Guinea pigs in the next level of experiments are more than welcome and I see from the giant step back-wards by 22896 other members that we have a few people interested in furthering the course of scientific endeavour. With so many prospective victims candidates I find my self spoilt for choice and will rely on proven stochastic methods of selecting test subjects.

I was only half joking. But the part about being grounded is half true. Just before I was grounded I was heading for a desk job anyway so I went out in style Big smile

Hell, forget about collaborator or reviewer, ow do I become a groupie or senior member

I haven't really done anything to warrant a promotion, but I'd like to know what it takes since these website rankings awarded by people I don't know from a computer far away actually means a lot to me LOL

more quality posts? reviews? more rankings?
