this is an interesting issue although im sure ill be called a racist and bigot(big surprise, i am just a downright rotten person after all!)....i feel to give a job to a minority over a white male if they are equally qualified is reverse discrimination....i also feel that if a minority and white male are up for the same job and the white male is more qualified he should get the job based on that, and that it is reverse discrimination to give it to the minority in this instance just to fill a quota...i feel these laws are a part of what serves to make america's industries less of a force than they used to be...two wrongs dont make a right(well to a lot of you it seems they do ,but)...not because more minorities are present in the workforce(which im sure is what some will make me out to have said), but because many got their positions not for their abilities/qualifications but for their status as a minority

If I were in the situation of choosing people to work and couldn't decide between two people, then I would make a choice based on the workforce I already had - if it was predominantly white I'd choose someone from another racial background; if it was predominantly male I'd choose a woman etc. Not in the name of equality, but simply because it'd be more valuable to have a different outlook from within the company - someone to bring his different culture and ideas in and perhaps find ways to solve problems that just wouldn't have occured to others.

that is a very good outlook on it goose, unfortunately, the current system doesnt allow for such choices to be made

I think the current system is the fairest for all!. If you
want to have freedom for all then if one race is
coming from a lesser opportunity you should
balance the scales. Bringing opportunity to those
who have less of a chance. Why should a certain
race or class represent the outcast. Easy to point
your finger at races or groups when you put them all
in the same box, a better test is to see how you wear
his shoes.

The major problem that I see is that corporate
America fills all the minority jobs(90%) at the
workforce level, leaving the trouble of working
together through differences at the worker level. The
old we'll hire em but they arent working with me
attitude. If you are going to proclaim equal rights it
should be at all levels.

agreed , but i do not believe that the current system does anything near to that, and i believe it does serve in fact to create reverse discrimination...i think the effort should go toward the communities and schools these groups come from in order to get them to a place where they can be more qualified than the white guy is, or consistently as qualified rather

many other reasons can be sited for the problems
with American productivity than under qualified
minorities. this seems to be a narrow viewpoint you
are representing.
reverse discrimination doesnt have much of a leg to
stand on yet! maybe you are young and facing
adversity and blaming it on lack of opportunity?

ADVERSITY BREEDS CHARACTER

it is you who offers the debate. im assuming your
fielding the question in the manner you did that this
was a feeling that you had.

did I say its not a problem, by offering jobs to minority
parents they are able to help with their childrens,
childrens, children to get a better education and be
better qualified. you offered a different viewpoint, I
offered mine.

reed why am i not allowed to discuss with someone without you interrupting? i didnt mean any disrespect in your viewpoint, infact when expounded upon the way you just did it makes alot more sense to me...thank you for sharing that, that is the point of a conversation i thought....we talk these things out to come to a sound understanding of the issue, and by questioning we are sometimes led into a deeper explanation ,hence understanding....you are right about the post as i obviously had that preconception, but your response(after my questioning of your initial response) is waht allowed me the greater understanding to walk away from the conversation with some of the previous MISconceptions exposed and a more elevated viewpoint....thank you....this doesnt mean that i agree with the laws 100% but i can attempt to justify them with much more facility

That's a ballsy bet. I'm sure you're an honest man in these situations.

How about the forfeit is... hmmm.... uhhhhhh... I'll give up and go on to bigger and better things? Maybe?
