It depends on where you think Progressive Rock starts. I am inclined to say that parts of Abbey Road is Progressive Rock or the Beatles were they really Progressive pop? IMO they are not like anyone else in that regard.

The ZombiesOdessey and Oracle 1968
The Pretty Things- S.F. Sorrow 1968

Yes it is I still listen it to it quite frequently. Jorma Kaukonen's guitar solo is mesmerizing. There is great live version of it on the remastered release from 2004.  Eskimo Blue Day is very proggy as well. Different time sigs and a real jazz feel to the music.  Grace Slick was a very underrated song writer. She also played a bit of piano as well.

East of Eden's marvellous Mercator Projected was released at the beginning of 1969, months before ITCOTCK. It's high time this album got some mention - if you haven't listened to it, get hold of it! You won't regret it.

Chad Stuart & Jeremy Clyde - Of Cabbages and Kings (1967)

Not added in the site, though they really deserved consideration. The album has a 26+ minutes suite.

Any of the first four Procol Harum albums deserve to be mentioned here. Also the last Beatles albums.

IMHO,
