Topic: Worst Band Of All Time?Posted By: Conor Fynes
Subject: Worst Band Of All Time?

I was wondering what you guys (being prog fans, you are by default more credible than the average music listener) thought the worst band/artist OF ALL TIME was. Not necessarily (and preferrably not) prog, but just of all the music you've listened to. The REALLY BAD stuff is sometimes ironically hilarious to listen to.
Heres my 'top 3'
3. Brokencyde (some scene-kid band, completely image based and totally superficial to the point of being ridiculous. they exemplify everything that is wrong with commercial, disposable music. I would recommend their masterpiece 'FreaXXX' to listen to, but you have to watch the video as well on youtube; thats where the humor is. It's honestly better than Suppers Ready, 2112, and A Change Of Seasons combined, no joke.
2. Anal C*nt (by their name alone, which i had to censor, you should get a good idea of what this band is about. It's best translated as grindcore noise with the most twisted hilarious lyrics of all time. It's essentially a 'concept band' as a protest against 'music' itself. listen to a few songs, they're usually on average about 20 seconds long. read the lyrics too! thats a must.
1. The White Mice (I cannot even begin to describe.. possibly, they are the most progressive, avant-garde band of all time; i really don't know. what they SOUND like to me though are probably some of the worst sounds ever combined on record. However, the white mice are notable for being the world's leading noisecore satanic mouse-themed band. a sure essential. check out their myspace!!!

Brokencyde is a good contender for one the worst. Their music literally made me feel physically sick listening to it.

Does it have to be a real band? If not, well The Archies and about 100 other bands of their ilk are obvious punching bags.

Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers. Both are filled with more cliches than an average prog-metal band.
I don't think Miley counts, and I have had to listen to her song many times at work, and she is really no worse than any other pop star. People only attack her because she's part of the Disney machine.
Nickelback and Hoobastank. There is nothing redeeming about post-grunge and pop-punk.

One night in NYC, 1973, Robert Plant declared the worst band in the world to be Slade.
Posted By: Trademark
Date Posted: March 13 2009 at 23:20
^^ Now I know why I never liked Robert Plant. Slade were more fun than a barrel of monkeys back in the day while Zep was godawful boring and over promoted. Slade might not exactly stand the test of time though.
I'll tie my vote between Tony Orlando & Dawn and The Captain & Tenille (Muskrat Love anyone?).

Looks like we're shooting fish in a barrel. I'd forgotten about those two. Tie a Yellow Ribbon around Tony Orlando's neck, but only to the point where he is unable to sing or front a band, since I generally wish no specific bodily harm to anyone. Well, maybe in his case we get Tonya Harding's dude to hammer the knees, so he can't actually appear on stage. Back in the day I always found Toni Tenille somewhat attractive ( (college-boy hormones is my only defense, sorry)), so at least they were worth watching at the time. Captain needed to be tossed overboard.
C'mon feel the noize. Don't even ask about Slade.

the goddamn Troggs
worst band ever
but honestly, I really hate a great deal of music: punk and pop-punk inc. what we are currently meant to call emo, screamo and more distantly hardcore and metalcore, trance, hip hop and rap (especially the brand coming out of the UK with the terrible rhymes which is supposedly being "smarter"), a lot of early jazz, all singer-songwriter stuff, rock'n'roll, hard rock and power metal, twee pop and indie in general allowing for a few talented/inspired bands, brit-pop, post-rock, neo-progressive awfulness, electrohouse with too much stuff going on/"bloghouse", chiprave, the blues and especially boring old laptop noise.
music i'm meant to think trashy - like breakcore, industrial and 80s pop - currently appeals to me more than any band backed by the alleged discerning. ;P
tl;dr = I want Will Smith back in the charts and to have never heard of MGMT

If I never hear Guns n Roses again, I'll be a happy man. Axel Rose is one of the worst singers the world of rock has ever produced. The point at which they were taken 'seriously' by the rock media (post Appetite For Destruction) is when they were at their absolute worst. November Rain is one of the most drip torture irritating attempts by a trash rock band, to be clever, serious and emotional. It was a attempt that failed misrerably, imo, but seemed to endear them to multitudes of people. Their success is an utter mystery to me.

The real worst bands of all time are garage bands that never got as far as getting a record deal with anyone because there is no audience outside the band that it could possibly be marketed to. You've most likely never heard about them, and if you've heard them you've deliberately forgotten about them because they were too bad to even leave a lasting impression on you.

However, some can be so bad that for one record only, they are good, e.g. Randy Avey (?) and The Green Fuz on Here Comes The Green Fuz (found on one of those Pebbles collections of 60's garage band recordings.
One of the great grating compilations was Kenny Everett's Worse Records Ever (or some such title) a mix of bad C'n'W and badder early British pop singles. One British artist even went back into the recording studio to re-record two tunes for the legendary Kenny, since Decca Records won't give permission for the originals' use - as a clue, the singer had a hit in the UK with Venus In Blues Jeans. One American C'n'W song had each verse devoted macabrely to the death of one of the male singer's family - with each death getting more outrageous than the one before. Fun, I don't think and indeed the way it was sung was akin to fingernails scrapped down a blackboard - three verses I think was the limit before the pain really kicked in.

hahahaha! You are watching me, huh? No the light is still dim. I do not think the Stones are worst band ever, they are just EXTRAordinarily overrated ever since Jones dies (was killed?) and especially since Taylor flew the coop. I just love The Shaggs....there is a point when it's getting nice again ... in terms of movies Zappa used the term cheepnis ....seeing the strings attached to the giant spider and everything: Slade, Kiss, Spinal Tap great stuff..... the music I really don't like is soulless producer music that you can here in a lifestyle bar not even muzac or elevator muisc which can be nice too....but some substandard jazz singer from hell with a big record contract, because every label wants to sign a nice looking jazz singer who pleases the whole family,.....

You guys got it all wrong It`s Australian 70s glam band SKYHOOKS Their album Ego Is Not A Dirty Word has to be the worst album ever released ( except for Céline Dion`s complete catologue, but that goes without saying). Here are some titles that I can remember :
You Just Like Me Coz I`m Good In Bed Why don`t You All Get F***ed All My Friends Are Getting Married Ego Is Not A Dirty Word
What a waste of guitars, amps and drums. These guys (?) make the Bay City Rollers sound like Led Zeppelin.

I always thought you remove Fred Durst and it's actually not bad. Wes Borland is a surprisingly talented guitarist and you can hear that in some of their songs, but the vocals totally ruin their music and make it unlistenable really.
I'll agree without Fred Durst they could have been a decent band, but with him behind the wheel you're doomed to put out songs like Rollin

I cant describe my hatred for AC/DC! Music for cavemen, by cavemen. I hete them. The guitar tone sounds like a cheese grater put to steel wool, the vocals to a a drunken troll, and the other three members being the most useless, pointless, worthless, bunch of unskilled idiots in any band.
Hate

I've had a nasty bit of the flu lately, with attendant expulsion of all bodily fluids from each and every orifice (and to think I got a flu shot just a couple months ago, damn CDC!). And now today I have been feeling a bit better. But to see AC/DC included in any Worst Band of All Time discussion is gonna perhaps push me back over the edge and it's all potentially gonna start again. Please don't do this to me

A few I despise:
1. Family Force Five. Generic Christian crap.
2. Bring Me the Horizon. Generic talentless poser Deathcore crap.
3. The Jonas Brothers. Why, just why?
4. KISS. ...

Man, have to vehemently disagree with this one. I lump Seger in with Springsteen in terms of really being able to make that connection between artist and listener. His lyrics dealt with a lot of struggles that I was going through at the time. Just love the album The Distance.

I've never seen the big deal with AC/DC. Calling them the worst band of all time is a bit much, but it seems they've made a living playing the same song with slight variances for eons. Just my opinion, though.
For me, I'd have to put Marilyn Manson on this list. I just cannot stand anything he does. So glad his 15 minutes were up a long time ago.

The Great Kat. Great shred guitar if you enjoy it without being played with the melody, subtlety, restraint, taste, and phrasing that you can expect from Joe Satriani or Guthrie Govan. Personally, I prefer my virtuoso instrumental guitar music played with good melody, subtlety, restraint, taste, and well thought out phrasing thanks, so I'll pass on the Great Kat The Great Kat is part of the reason why I don't listen to instrumental guitar as much anymore. Speed for the sake of speed = epic fail. One of the worst perhaps.

Not actually bad but they managed to put out the second to worst selling album for Columbia, Music To Eat, The Hampton Grease Band.

E-Dub, have you heard Face The Promise? (from '06 or '07). Some really good songs on that one too. Being an old (ex) Michigan Man myself, you couldn't turn around without running into Bob when I was growing up in the mid 70's. He literally opened for everyone who came to the state (just a few from memory, Foghat, Angel, Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods (remember Billy Don't Be A Hero?), REO, Black Oak Arkansas, Ted Nugent). Seger feels like family.

Barbie Girl is a great little slice of Europop. The rest of that Aquarium album is pretty sucky though.

Oh yeah, I bought it when it came out. Actually a nice return from him. Still has that trademark smokey voice of his, but it's even more weathered now. Still sounds great, though.
The Distance just has a special place in my heart, though. Love that album.

Conor Fynes you sound like a relatively new member, as i would say prog-ravers (i coined that by the way, and you should use it too ) are no more experienced in the way of music appreciation than any other demographic, in fact, when one listens to YES, Rush or any other "Dinosaur Spinal Tap" band and what they consider to be music, one has to question the reasoning abilities of some prog-ravers. my distain for some of progs obsurd indulgences probably stems from the fact that when i picked up a guitar at 18, i formed a Punk/Alternative band immediately, however, my tastes and writing has evolved since then. but i post this in some kind of pink because i mean this in a friendly way, friendly fire, now let's share some Listerine!

Oh yes, I've got Afternoon Delight on a certain '70's compilation. (Why do I have '70's compilations? Call me compulsive.) While Afternoon Delight is foul, the CD also includes the themes to Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley, so it's by no means the worst song on the album. Said compilation also has the putrid Let Your Love Flow by The Bellamy Brothers and several other abominations.
So, if ya'll want to hear just how bad '70s music could be (as well as how good. in extremely rare instances (Hocus Pocus, anyone)), look no further than Rhino's Have A Nice Day set, all 25 CD's worth.
