Currently, the introduction to ProgArchives reads as follows:

It is my understanding that it is mailto:M@xs - M@x's policy that if a band has released at least 1 prog rock album they are to be included in the prog archives. I am of the opinion that this policy is not being followed and is in fact being purposefully ignored by some collabs and admins. One explanation was that there is no actual stated policy that says this anywhere on prog archives.

My proposal is to add the following to this introduction:

PROG ARCHIVES intends to be the most complete and powerful http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive-rock.asp - progressive rock resource. You can find the progressive rock music discographies from 4,115 bands & artists, 21,050 albums (LP, CD and DVD), 188,347 ratings and reviews from 22,244 members who also participate in our active http://www.progarchives.com/forum/ - forum . You can also read the http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=47597 - new visitors guide (forum page) . In order to be the most complete progressive rock resource, It is this site's policy to include any band who has released at least one progressive rock album. In order to further assist our users in researching the bands included on our site, it is also this site's policy to include the entire discography of all artists that are included on this site. It is our intention for these two policies to make us the most comprehensive progressive rock resource. Enjoy your visit to PROG ARCHIVES and hopefully you will find some new favorite progressive rock gem from some least expected place.

I'm sure there is probably a wordsmith out there who could come up with better wording, but I think that something to that effect might be helpful.

Maybe you shouldn't have "In order to" a second time. I would just have "To further assist..."

I like this change.

How's this for wording:

In order to achieve this goal, it is the Archives' policy to include any band/artist who has released at least one progressive rock album. In the interest of users looking to explore those bands/artists further, we include the entire discography of each band/artist featured on the site. Our intention is for these two policies to make us the most to make us the most comprehensive progressive rock resource. Enjoy your visit to PROG ARCHIVES, and hopefully you will find a progressive rock gem in an unexpected place.

(Sorry if this annoys you guys but I always seem to try and fix wordings that don't sound right to me, basically end up rewriting my brother's essays sometimes just to make it flow nicely)

and also maybe change " It is our intention for these two policies to make us the most comprehensive progressive rock resource."

to

"Our intention is for these two policies to make us the most ... "

to be honest Scott... I don't care exactly what that policy is.. just that it is made clear. For the forum... for our collabs.... and ESPECIALLY for genre-teams. This is where that policy should be explained. Whatever that policy is.. or is to be.

I think that is great Scott... if the site is going to stick to that policy..which is also my understanding that is indeed M@X's policy...it needs to be put into black and white.

it seems you're suggesting several things; One, that the 'policy' [which isn't a policy as much as a general opinion among contributors] is not being followed. That is a major discussion and should probably be conducted in the CZ.

Two, that the introduction be altered to include a statement regarding 1-album prog releases. That also is a major discussion and if implemented, could paint us into a corner because during the prog era, the majority of new bands were progressive or recorded a 'prog album', some of whom have yet to be evaluated but will be. Also all the newer acts that sometimes do progressive music but simply wouldn't appropriate here or who have already been evaluated by one or more teams (i.e. U.S. chamber band Rachel's).

The idea is a good one if we decide to make the 1-album notion our mission. If not, it could cause much undo stress and extra work for all.

M@X's intent.. one we all surely strive to achieve.. is to be the complete archive for prog rock. We all know there is a boatload of prog rock that is not being added here. The questions.... it is important to M@X.. the site...to it's collabs that it be added. If that is the case... then of course the question is.. how.. either we add the artist.. with all the discography.. or we implement the 'single album' category here.

It is not our fault ("our" meaning the collabs and admins) that bands such as Judas Priest or the Bee Gees or The Rolling Stones or "add your band here" released 1, 2, or 3 progressive rock albums and 10, 20, or 30 non-prog rock albums. But if we are going to be the most comprehensive and ultimate prog rock archive these albums or artists need to be included on this site. Yes, it sucks that this means that pure thrash metal or disco albums are also included but that is the nature of the art and the site.

One observation - the revised version is too long. It needs to be a short, punchy and succinct introduction to the site, nothing more.

(and my writing has none of those qualities, so I doubt I'm much help really

)

Unfortunately tl;dr is a common trait today so if it is more than two sentences hardly anyone will read it.

Also, I feel that a seperate PA Mission Statement and/or a more detailed Manifesto on Site Policy need be not Page 1, but can be located on other pages for those people who want to read more. These statements are of greater interest to collaborators and contributors than lurkers and casual browsers.

I like it, but change "one such release" to "one progressive rock release," because there's a possibility for confusion regarding what you're referring to.
