Do any older UK members remember Alan Freemans Saturday show on Radio 1?

Of course you do, what a great show...so many happy memories....and a great source of new music to explore. What are your memories of this?

Shame theres nothing at all like it now

I think he was a bit before my time. I remember laughing at the Harry Enfield/Paul Whitehouse DJ's, one of which was clearly based on Fluff. I didn't really know anything about Alan Freeman though. I would love to have heard some of his shows.

I have great memories of the late Tommy Vance. I used to listern to his Rock show religiously!

Yep.The show always started with a massive bombastic intro (inc ELP ''Welcome back my friends...''  ) and 2 hours of great music.Fluff ruled on a Saturday between 3.30 -5.30.  Younger fans will not know just how important this guy was to prog.We should start a campaign to get him back.''The man who discovered ELP when they were millionaires and turned them into multi millionaires'' (quote -John Peel)

Alan Freeman was a Godsend to music lovers in the very early 70's and latterly in the late 80's early 90's on Virgin before that mainstream outlet cut his Friday night rock show.Fluff truly loved his music. I have many a taped show where he would play a myriad number of early prog from Yes to king Crimson.I remember like yesterday my first hearing of Renaissance's Scherrezade on his Saturday afternoon programme.I don't know what Alan's health is like and he must be in his late 70's early 80's but if he could, he would still play great rock music.I also heard the Flower King's 'Church of your Heart' on his Friday night show.Virgin took it off because it had a small hardcore fan base, and that's from a 'Rock' radio station It's a music station for bored housewives.
