Now this isn't a thread about what you think is the worst song in the world. Apparently a group of scientists took what was supposed to be the most pleasurable sounds in the world and did the complete opposite. Of course when I saw the headline I thought there'd be a decent chance some people here on PA would like it. There are definitely some prog tendencies at places in this piece which clocks in at over 20 minutes. There are some parts of the song that are downright enjoyable (most notably the very beginning and starting at minute 18 or so) whereas others can be downright annoying (particularly the parts with singing children). It's hard to call this a song because there isn't really any unifying theme. There will be movements a couple minutes in length that, without any rhyme or reason, transform into a completely different sound.

I definitely don't fall into one of the 200 people in the world that enjoys this, I don't think it's particularly awful. Leave your thoughts.

The fact that I did not just hear "Christmas Shoes" means that science is wrong. Also, the title "Worst Song" is misleading; I imagine they went with it because "We threw together a bunch of crap noise for a long time" wouldn't get as many hits.

This has been talked about before.

But yeah, I love the most unwanted song. My favorite parts are the children singing at various hollidays, like christmas and yom kippur.

They did a little blurb on this on NPR a couple-three weeks ago.  An odd experiment.....

There wasn't even a part I thought was annoying or anything. I'd even say some parts are really cool. I could easily come up with a worst song.

I found it almost throughly enjoyable. I can see myself buying an album with similar stuff... its biggest flaw is that it's not coherently connected so it doesn't flow well at all, but I am sure a creative dj would be able to mix that into something really cool. I actually own Merzbow cd's with more "irritating" music than that

Try listening to this:

I don't play those albums often but every once in a while it's quite a trip.

I find the Merzbow track above much more enjoyable than that hotchpotch of a "song".

So do I, as I've said it needs some creative remixing to make it coherentWink... My point was that any convention of what "music" can be broken. I'm sure there are people who disagree and think that anything remotely avant garde is garbage, but I'm certainly not one of them...

I can not download it so I don't know.
However, isn't the idea of doing exactly the opposite of what is loved by most people the very true musical idea of King crimson ?

Yes, but I don't think that Crimson clinically engineered their music to be just awful

You can't download the song, you have to stream it
