my internet connection expires tomorrow so this isgonna be the last poll from me in a long time. This is obviously the third poll in a month that has to do with Remedty Lane.

and please let me explain: this IS a prog poll. Because progressive rock is about "making progress", and I'm wondering if progheads are more aware of their goals in life than non-progheads. If you take a look at some of the other forums (forums for young people especially) you'll find posts saying that "life is puzzling", "existence is strange", "life is boring so let's go kill some people"(punk) or "life is meaningless so let's kill ourselves"(post-punk / gothic). IMO these people most likely don't know what they're looking for, that's why life is so puzzling for them. Progheads, on the other hand, know their directions well and are always progressing forward.

I doubt it, there is nothing special about liking certain kinds of music.

Why is this in the prog polls section?
I know you tried to explain why, but still, but I don't get why it's in the prog poll section.

In other words, I don't know.

That too.

If more people here are not wandering through the abyss it is because the population here skews much higher than the average punk/whatever forum.

I like post-punk/gothic - never once did I feel "life is meaningless so let's kill ourselves" - that's called stereotyping. Music of any kind attracts a broad spectrum of personalities that do not conform to any idealised stereotypes.

Progressive (noun) Music is not progressive (adjective) - it is not about making progress or moving forward, though if you look hard enough I'm sure you'll find it - then if I said all Prog music is nihilistic or retrogressive I'm sure I could find plenty of examples to prove that too. There is a danger is coming up with a hypothesis, seeing trends that support it and then claiming that as a generalisation when Prog music has such a diverse vocabulary and attracts a wide range of personalities as musicians and fans.

To be honest, I fear I just dont know.

The age of people on this forum is probably a much bigger factor than what kind of music they listen to in answering this question.

You know, when I read this, I took this as a question about life.  I have my ideas for the rest of my career pretty much mapped out.  I suppose that is a little sad.

Taking it to the musical side, well, I pretty much know what I want out of prog.  Maybe that's a bit sad too.  But I do have interests outside of prog.  I finally found a Buddy Rich album (Keep the Customer Satisfied) and I am as happy as heck with it.  Prog is my first and only love, but that doesn't mean I won't cheat!  :)

Pretty sure you can like can prog and not know what you're looking for.

Kinda like how Gildenlow didn't know what he was looking for and thus wrote that lyric despite being a prog musician.

This needs to be moved.

I'm not looking for anything anymore.

Listening and looking at what's right here right now is all I'll ever get whether I want it or not.

We'll see how long that sentiment lasts.

I'm looking for love, both intimately and from close friends. Cheesy answer of course, but it's the truth.

Also, have you guys seen my socks?

It's been about a day since your post.  Had enough beers yet? Tongue

To answer honestly, I'm not really looking for anything in particular just want to do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight.

Reminds me of a bad joke I made up myself.
Why has U2 still not found what they're looking for?
Because the streets have no names.

Yes I do know what I'm looking for in life. I'm looking for the things I enjoy about life, so as I can live happily and with a clean conscience. Simple. It has nothing to do with music tastes either.

Well actually, Yes. I'm Arriving Somewhere and I know where that is.

Here.
And that's all there is to it. Everything else is just pathetic attempts to convince yourself otherwise, always failed and never admitted.

Not at all.

I'm 20...what I want seems to change quite often.

But it usually revolves around women.

I have no idea what I want to do in life. Yes, I do have a major picked out in college, but I would be perfectly happy doing something totally different with the rest of my life. In a way I'd like to be a jack of all trades. I hate that I have to narrow my professional focus down to one seemingly insignificant field. I feel like I'm missing so much.

Also, on the social side, I would like for there to be a social side. In a way, I'd like to have like 4 or 5 very close friends (and a girlfriend in there as well...) and just waste the days away with them. Of course, two years ago I wanted the exact opposite...going out to parties and meeting various peoples...but now...that doesn't seem to interest me. I'd still go if invited, but I have no interest to seek it out. And who knows, give it four years and see if I still want this or something different.

Music is easier. I love prog, jazz and related, and the avant-garde. I like many others types of music as well. Only problem here is time...too little too too much music.

I suppose the ultimate goal is to be able to live a happy life and not look back at things with regret (as I'm doing now, in a way at least). How to become happy is the key, and the answer will be what I want. But what that is is elusive to me at this point in time. Somethings are constant, such as music and a ladyfriend. But overall, there are many grey areas. Hopefully one day it will become clearer.

-------------
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

So you'd prefer to be buried and eaten up by maggots and weevils rather than being burned, dumped, or eaten by people? Tongue

Both can be accomplished if necrophilia is part of the gameplan.

Also I voted I don't know so that the count would be 8-8-8.

Man: (entering a shop) Um, excuse me, is this the undertaker's?

Undertaker: Yup, that's right, what can I do for you, squire?

Man: Um, well, I wonder if you can help me. My mother has just died and I'm not quite sure what I should do.

Undertaker: Ah, well, we can 'elp you. We deal with stiffs.

Man: (aghast) Stiffs?

Undertaker: Yea. Now there's three things we can do with your mum. We can bury her, burn her, or dump her.

Man: Dump her?

Undertaker: Dump her in the Thames.

Man: (still aghast) What?

Undertaker: Oh, did you like her?

Man: Yes!

Undertaker: Oh well, we won't dump her, then. Well, what do you think: burn her, or bury her?

Man: Um, well, um, which would you recommend?

Undertaker: Well they're both nasty. If we burn her, she gets stuffed in the flames, crackle, crackle, crackle, which is a bit of a shock if she's not quite dead. But quick. And then you get a box of ashes, which you can pretend are hers.

Man: (timidly) Oh.

Undertaker: Or, if you don't wanna fry her, you can bury her. And then she'll get eaten up by maggots and weevils, nibble, nibble, nibble, which isn't so hot if, as I said, she's not quite dead.

Man: I see. Um. Well, I.. I.. I.. I'm not very sure. She's definitely dead.

Undertaker: Where is she?

Man: In the sack.

Undertaker: Let's 'ave a look.

(FX: rustle of bag opening)

Undertaker: Umm, she looks quite young.

Man: Yes, she was.

Undertaker: (over his shoulder) FRED!

Fred: (offstage) Yea!

Undertaker: I THINK WE'VE GOT AN EATER!

Fred: I'll get the oven on!

Man: Um, er...excuse me, um, are you... are you suggesting we should eat my mother?

(pause)

Undertaker: Yeah. Not raw, not raw. We cook her. She'd be delicious with a few french fries, a bit of stuffing. Delicious! (smacks his lips)

Man: What! (he stammers)

(pause)

Man: Actually, I do feel a bit peckish - No! NO, I can't!

Undertaker: Look, we'll eat your mum. Then, if you feel a bit guilty about it afterwards, we can dig a grave and you can throw up into it.

Man: All right.

Did they really have to say then that they were going to eat her? If he went with cremation, they could have kept the body and, as they suggested, just give the guy some random ashes.
