Composition-wise, it might be the best compositon I've heard from Classical Music. However, I admit I'm not that much of an opera fan and feel with today's technology and instruments, the composition could be interpreted differently and in a more electric format.

Maybe not the whole composition, but maybe some of the memorable parts like the overture, the 'lacrymosa' chorus (I've heard it in Symphony X, it was awesome), or the climax in the end (which brings back the awesomeness of the intro)

^^ Mozart's Requiem isn't an Opera...its a choral work...Wink

I can't really help you with a prog rock version, because their just isn't one, but I will make 2 suggestions for utterly mesmerising recordings of the Requiem work:

this one is Historically Informed (original instruments)

while this one is big & beefy, with full Phil Orchestra...

enjoy..Smile

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I have "Beethoven's Last Night", I personally didn't think it was great but thanks for the recommendation.

As for the big and beefy version of Requiem, it actually did sound more majestic, but I felt that the tempo was inappropriately lowered. (from amazon samples)

Mozart never got to finish it (he died while working on it)), so the first 2/3's is defenetly stronger than its ending.

I hope no one ever makes a progrock version of this, or any other death mass (which is something completely different than opera). They should make one of their own instead.

The melody of this piece of Requiem is absolutely mesmerizing. Very complex, full of variations, and instantly memorable. Not to mention the insanely complex vocal harmonies and countermelodies around that brilliant melody. I can see parts of requiem influencing Gentle Giant.

Sadly, I do not understand why many versions of Requiem have a lower tempo. I feel the faster tempo in this link has the most impact on me.

holy ****, now this version is epic! much better than the version I was listening to before, and I've realize that the song works just as well in this slower tempo

(most versions have this tempo, I used to listen to requiem with a somewhat faster tempo)

Mozarts reqiem is by far the best work he ever did. not a big fan of anything else (too fru fru fluff). the darker he gets the better. i dont know of any band however that took this as inspiration for a composition of their own.

i like the slower version better as well Wink

if my memory does not fail, Lacrimosa did a son with part of Requiem, and it sounded nice
