Bill Murray is my God and while he might not be everybodies no one can deny his exceptional acting ability (because if they do Angry).  Anyway, what is everyone's favorite Bill Murray character and why (quotes are more than welcome)?  Since he has been in more movies than there are poll choice boxes I limited this to his major roles, and my favorites.

While I love him in everything (he even shined in that stinking pile of dung "Charlie's Angels" [bonus points for making Lucy Liu cry]) I had to make a pick so:
As a golfer who considers Caddyshack the most brilliant/hilarious comedy of all time I can't help but go with Carl Spackler.  Bill's ability to improvise lines not only extended his screen time but it made Carl one of the most quoted movie characters of all time.  "Bark like a dog for me"

Let me also recommend to everyone a seemingly lost film (especially surprising considering the cast): Mad Dog and Glory - an outstanding little film in which Bill Murray plays opposite Robert De Niro.  The two play off of each other so impressive in roles which you might think would be reversed: Murray as mobster Frank Milo and De Niro as weak police photographer Wayne Dobie.

If I left off your favorite then post it.

though I have a lot of nostalgia for his role in Meatballs, I voted for Bob Wiley, a tour de force

Then there's his worst character, that lounge singer guy on Saturday Night Live.

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

Although it was hard to choose. There are few actors who have so many wonderful characters.

I'm not the most familiar with movies or specifically all of these parts, but I saw that Phil Connors had no votes so I just had to give that at least one.

"PHIL? PHIL CONNORS?!"

He was decent at best on SNL, and his acting was worse.

This is so impossible. I thought it was hard to pick a favorite Scorsese or Kubrick movie, but Bill Murray is one of the best actors ever. Period. He can handle over the top humor, subtler dark comedy, and outright heartwrenching drama. I hear he's an a****le in real life, but I don't care. Easily one of my five favorite actors.

Let's see, what to pick: he's dynamite in Caddyshack, Scrooged is awesome, he's the only consistently god aspect of Rushmore and Life Aquatic. He's awesome in Royal Tenenbaums and even Stripes, which starts so great and ends so terribly.

Umm, gotta go with Venkman. I have never not found every line he drops in those movies not funny.

I had to take baby steps to vote for Bob.  Bill is the man.

I voted for Thompson because of the line that went something like this "GET THE GODDAMN TAP OFF THE PHONE, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE MESSING WITH HERE, CHILDREN?"  shouted into the phone.  With the NSA spying on all our phone calls, I've been tempted many times to do that.  I did like Johnny Depp's Thompson better.  A little less clownish.  The Venkman character will probably attract the most votes as I think it's his best known character.  That was the one with the "dogs and cats living together" line, right?

You needn't  worry about that. He crashes parties at random http://www.nypost.com/pagesixmag/issues/20081207/Bill+Murray+NYCs+New+Party+Boy?page=1 - (http://www.nypost.com/pagesixmag/issues/20081207/Bill+Murray+NYCs+New+Party+Boy?page=1 ) and all of the accounts from people who were hosting such a party said he was a really cool guy.

Also, whenever I hear "PHIL!? PHIL CONNORS?!" I always think "PHIL?! PHIL COLLINS?!" Is there something wrong with me?

Answer: Yes
