I've just learned that Lars Hollmer has passed away at 60 years old today. I don't know many details yet. Last year, I talked to Rémi Leclerc from Miriodor who told me he was really sick and stuck in bed. I feared the worst. Now, it seems the disease took him away.

I had the chance to see him play live with Samla Mammas Manna at one of what would be his last performance. He blew me away (the whole band did but Hollmer has quite a stage presence). The concert was awesome (probably the most intense prog concert I've seen). He was so jolly and he seemed perfectly fine. I spoke to him quickly after the show and he was such a great guy.

Cheers for this underrated musician who was part of the initial Rock in Opposition movement and to a great guy! Clap

Rest in Peace Lars.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

Oh no. Cry

Oh no oh no. Cry

This is terrible news.  Bugger.

Can you post us confirmation, Olivier?  Not that I don't believe you, of course, I just like to have another source.  Cheers.

Lars, I have many of your albums, as well as SMM and Von Zamla ones and I shall try and listen to them soon.

In pace, requiescat, Lars. Cry

This is sad news.. For Lars Hollmer is one of the most fantastic musicians I've listened to over the years and I'm saddened by this news...

I was hoping to see Samla Mammas Manna play one of these years too!

RIP.

Very sad news.

But honestly this is probably not going to get better, lets face it our idols are getting old, and the tendency is to loose more of them as the years go by.

Sad news... RIP Lars.

2008 has been a year of heavy losses for the good music... casually I read just now that Mist (Volker Karhs), from Grobschnitt died last July, age 57. I can't remember any note here in the Archives about his passing.

I can't speak or read Swedish, but I gather that veteran Swedish progger Lars Hollmer is dead: http://www2.unt.se/avd/1,1826,MC=5-AV_ID=846067,00.html - http://www2.unt.se/avd/1,1826,MC=5-AV_ID=846067,00.html

I've checked on an online dictionary that död stands for dead - can anyone confirm this apparent sad news?

Thank you for the music, Lars - you were brilliant and brought so much joy and pleasure to those who could appreciate the weird, distinct dynamics of Samla Mammas Manna, Zamla Mammaz Manna and Von Zamla as a major contribution to prog rock's history.

    Rest in peace, Master!

Död does indeed stand för dead and this is indeed sad news. I just read about it in Dagens Nyheter, one of Swedens biggest newspapers. It must be one of the few times that SMM, Ramlösa kvällar and RIO is mentioned in that paper...

Anyway, R.I.P. Lars Hollmer.

Another sad loss of a splendid musician and composer with a rare ability to write complex music that could make men with hearts of steel smile.

Sleep well Lars, and thankyou for the music.

Crikey. I had no idea about this until five minutes ago when I stumbled onto the Samla Mammas Manna wiki page, which has the news unceremoniously plonked in the middle of the article.

He was a truly amazing, unique and brilliant force in music. His compositions do things to my mind and spark my imagination in ways that simply no one else's could ever do. RIP, Mr Hollmer, and thank you.
