 the other day I had kind of a childhood flashback of this cartoon TV show I used to love as a kid...
Professor Balthazar it was a former yugoslavian production (between 1967 to 1974) and quite inspired by Pop art ....it has a very unique animation style and the stories are 200% psychedelic..
BTW has anyone of you wathched this programm too?

Wow! Thanks for posting. I never heard of that (I'm too young) but I love those videos. I will dig it up a little more. But what makes you say it's inspired by pop art? I can see a wee little bit of influence but that's all. I'm just curious. -------------

I am glad you like it Bern...
...it's obviously not the critical side of popart and but the graphic use of effects like oversized letters, flashy colours, and the surreal, psychedelic side that was a big influence on pop art....
like in Yellow Submarine BTW
PS I have to review more episodes, but from memory I would say there was also a light anti-establishment (anti consumerism ) feeling,, [look at his episode where a farmer produces only tiny vegetables and he gets only "tiny" money for them and he can only buy tiny clothes for his daughters and with the help of Balthazar he produces these oversized vegatbles and becomes rich, kind of a caricature of capitalism ] joining the pop-art ideas....

I remember it going in the TV here around mid-70s... that time I was a teenager and giving a damn for TV hence I lost this interesting animation. Going to check the videos anyway. ------------- Guigo ~~~~~~ |

Thanks for clearing your point up. I thought more about early american pop art and I couldn't see much influence. That was my mistake. It was clearly more influenced by the english (and european as a whole) pop art (aesthetics side). Now, I see what you mean. I noticed the graphic use of letterings and the use of "printed" like backgrounds but that's all I saw as pop art influences. I forgot about the psychedelic side of british pop art which I never really put in the pop art category. It's funny I'm the one arguing cause I really don't like to categorize things. I see it now anyway. I have yet to see that episode. I'll check it out thanks. -------------
