So what is your favorite instrumental Genesis song?
I'm going to discontinue the other poll series I had (What's your favorite song by....) and do something a little more specific.

Is it me or Unquite Slumbers for the Sleepers and In that Quite Earth aren't there?
Anyways, Los Endos gets my vote. Amazing song, it could have been longer though. In that Quite Earth would come second, and then Horizons

You left off two great ones. Unquiet Slumber for the Sleepers...In That Quiet Earth; and, Do the Neurotic. And those are my two favorites. Technically, 2nd Home isn't really an instrumental, as it does have lyrics at the end.

^also Duke's End isn't here, while not as great as Duke's Travels it's a good inclusion.

Haha, no Pablo. I think only an admin can do that. Besides, the poll doesn't warrant closure. He can put whatever songs on it he wants. If he wants to make a best Genesis instrumental poll and put Invisible Touch, I Can't Dance and Owner of a Lonely Heart on it, that's his choice.
Seriously, just messing with you Jozef, but you might want to consider editing the poll and putting the three instrumentals on that me and Pablo mentioned. They are all good ones.

Second Home by the Sea, thanks to the absence of Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers...In That Quiet Earth. Horizons is third.

The Waiting Room is quite possibly my favorite Genesis song discounting Supper's Ready.

After the Ordeal and Hairless Heart are both great.

Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers would have been my pick as well. I voted for After the Ordeal...by far my favorite on the list. Los Endos is pretty awesome too... After the Ordeal just has a better atmosphere to me.
I never cared much for most of the instrumentals from Lamb Lies Down... those tracks always felt like filler to me.
Horizons is musically very good but doesnt feel like a Genesis track to me (just a good Hackett solo composition) so i've never been a huge fan of that track (on a Genesis album) either.

Mr. Random Noises would say that one.
As for me, I could easily go with "After the Ordeal," but there's also something about "Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats." I'll have to listen again before I choose.

"After the Ordeal" barely beats "Silent Sorrows in Empty Boats"--I love Hackett on the former, Banks on the latter.

If "Second Home" is up, one would think that would warrent "Dukes Travels" or "The Supernatural Anaesthetist". Oh well, "Wot Gorilla?" for me. There's just something about it, baby, so right. ( I should be shot for this.)

Doubting between After The Ordeal and Los Endos.
I choose the first one. I love the first half especially, with the acoustic guitar part and the piano in the background.
Seeing the list and the extra tracks that other people suggest makes me realise: Genesis made many good instrumentals , more than I thought. I also like Duke's Travels / Dukes End a lot, some instrumentals on The Lamb, Second Home By The Sea... I also like Submarine. Do The Neurotic isn't bad, but still a bit throwaway. The last two tracks were only B sides, of course.
I'm not a big fan of The Brazilian: I found that a bit disappointing, but I know others do like it (like Iván). Wot Gorilla: I'm surprised that it got two votes, and are actually some peoples favorite Genesis instrumentals. Horizons: I like it mainly because it opens for some wonderful music in Supper's Ready. I noticed that Horizons sounds very much like a well known Bach cello solo piece, by the way.
Idea for a next thread some time: Steve Hackett instrumentals.

he must have made a confusion with Fading lights, which still is not an instrumental but nevertheless has an amazing keyboard solo.

I tried editing the poll to include the other songs you've all mentioned but for some reason I couldn't add extra poll choices. Maybe I'm missing something?

As a member, you cannot add more options to the poll, but only edit current ones.

I came in all ready to plop down "After the Ordeal"...
Then I saw "Horizons'."
Hor-f**kin'-RIZONS man.
Gotta go with that.

None of the above. Instead, the 1+ minute intro to "Blood on the Rooftops" - gotta be one of Hackett's best instrumental acoustic guitar sections when playing with Genesis...

It was definitely hard for me NOT to choose "Horizons", which is a beautiful song........but I had to go for "Los Endos".

Section Five And A Half of Supper's Ready LOL
In all seriousness, it's a tough choice. Hairless Heart is pretty rad... After The Ordeal doesn't require comment... Los Endos... Man. Some good stuff in there. Reminds me of how good the band really is.

Unquiet Slumber for the Sleepers...In That Quiet Earth, I think was a fine way to end the great era of Genesis. Beautiful song.

Horizons to me is just an intro to Supper's Ready, while I do not think that the short instrumentals of the Lamb can stand up as strong songs, more are they like interludes in my opinion. Wot Gorilla? is not a bad track, but nothing particular special. As I see Los Endos more as a "repeat themes and then end"-ing, it also does not get my vote. Second Home by the Sea and Behind the Lines are nothing spectacular, and I don't dare losing many words about The Brazilian. In conclusion, After the Ordeal makes it due to it being a solid song with probably the best ideas the band had in creating instrumental songs. Also, in comparison, it CAN actually stand up against the rest of the individual album.
Honorary mention of the closing of Wind & Wuthering though..

This poll is absurdly difficult. So many of the choices do their job as a part of the album perfectly and/or they are highly enjoyable.
First I get rid of "Second Home" because the electronic drumming is a huge turn-off. It's the only one of the choices that I don't like. Then I have to eliminate "Behind the Lines" and "The Brazilian." While I like both of them, they can't hold a candle to the music produced while Steve Hackett was a member of the band. As stand-alone songs, I'd have to get rid of "Hairless Heart" and "Silent Sorrows." They simply aren't exciting enough and are parts of a concept album. When taken out of context (especially "Silent Sorrows") they both lose a huge amount of character. "The Waiting Room" stays in contention only after I saw "The Musical Box" perform it live a few years ago. Prior to that show I thought it was a bunch of pointless noise. Seeing it live breathed new life into the song and opened my ears to so much of what I was missing before. I absolutely love it now. I cannot narrow it down any further, so from my remaining choices I have to go with whatever has fewer votes. "The Waiting Room" and "Horizons" both have 3, but more people have picked "Horizons" as their second or third choice, so my vote will have to go to it. "The Waiting Room" is also much more of a niche song.

Alex, I'm voting for The Waiting Room too. This seems to be almost universally disliked and I suppose it's because it's quite an un-Genesis type track. It fits in so well on The Lamb though. The rocky part at the end is particularly brilliant with the whole band in really top form.
