Windows XP is no relation to DOS - except that Microsoft wrote a version of DOS.
I use all manner of OSes as part of my daily work - but Windows XP is certainly the one I use most simply because you can run more varied software on that platform.
OS/es I use regularly that aren't listed include
Windows 2003 Server
OS/2
SGI Irix
Solaris
HP-UX
AIX
FreeBSD
and WinCE

well, like the OS you use. winblows is such a generic crap.

I have to agree this is true, partly from bugs, bad designs, etc., but also partly because it is used so widely it only makes sense that spyware designers would aim all their attention at this operating system. It makes economic sense to do this. If some other operating system were far more widely used than XP in the average home user market (i.e. the bulk of less computer-literate users), chances are the hackers would hit that one. I could be wrong. After all, they do have a searing hatred for Microsoft. Back before Microsoft, it was IBM. Anyone remember VM/CMS?
I suppose the same idea can be applied to browsers. IE is really problematic in this regard. It's one of the reasons I chose to move to Firefox. It's not perfect, but seems safer to me, at least for the moment.

I'm still on Windows 98 and it's about as stable as the Leaning Tower of Pisa in an earthquake. Sometimes it decides I don't have a hard drive, sometimes I don't have a mouse, sometimes it blue-screens when booting up. I upgraded to XP once but couldn't get some of my sons' old games to work so I had to take it off.
I'm buying a new PC next year.

Spyware is a Windows problem ... but NOT because the Mac is immune to spyware. If the Mac had >90% market share, it would have the same problems as Windows has.
