With only around 7 weeks to go until the end of the year I started thinking about who is going to be releasing albums in 2009 that we can look forward to. Hoepfully we'll get that new album from King Crimson. I'm pretty sure Echolyn have one in the pipeline and I'll also look forward to the new IQ album.
So who else can we look forward to releasing new albums in 2009?

It would be great if Porcupine Tree released another album. Deadwing in 2005, FOABP in 2007, who knows?
of course, Steve would have to shelve his thousands of other projects for a little bit, heaven forbid

Apparently a new album is due either late next year or early 2010. Definitely one to look forward too. There will also be the full commercial release of SWs solo album (only the limited editions are currently available).

Cool. Well the re-release of Lightbulb Sun will definitely hold me over until then

Yes I'd be very happy if Porcupine Tree released an album next year. Fingers crossed.
Perhaps Dream Theater too though I've not heard anything.

next year, I know that Spheric Universe Experience, Circus Maximus and Anubis Gate will all be releasing new albums...
I'm sure there will be a few more to look forward to, as well...

Riverside and Isis said they'd be releasing albums next year, it sounds like late spring for both at the earliest. I'll be looking forward to both. I'm guessing Yndi Halda may have a new one out next year. dredg's next is due for February I think, but I don't really have great expectations to be honest.
...and of course there are bands that said they'd be releasing albums this year (Indukti, Anathema, Amplifier), but don't even have release dates. I'd guess these are coming out next year then. *sigh*

Yeah, five year intervals are probably how it will be from now on. They won't release their album after that until 2016, and by then the world will have ended in 2012.
But the way DT goes, they'll have about 3 more albums out by 2012 and 3 live ones too.

I'm looking forward to these the most:
Dream Theater
Mastodon
Isis
Mew
The Mars Volta (I didn't read about a March release anywhere, but I'm sure they'll have one out before the year is out)
Jaga Jazzist (hopefully)
IQ
I don't know what else is due for sure.

They announced that a new album is on the way since the 2007 tour (I saw them in August). So, given that 2008 almost ends, they better come with that album next year! Same with Crimson!
Yes, on the other hand, can prolong the hiatus as much as they please...

I'd forgotten about that, I think you're right, Roine Stolt did mention about working on new stuff....think it may have been in the interview he did for this site. More along the same lines as the last one would be great.

I enjoyed the last Circus Maximus so I'd probably buy their next one.

Riverside released one of my favourites of 2007 so I'll certainly look forward to that.

Tull have suposedly had one in the pipeline for ages but on the strength of the last few it's not something I'm too excited about.

It's strange that they're working. In the August concert I mentioned, they played a couple of tracks from the allegedly new album, and the same Ian mentioned the album was considerably deep under construction, towards being finished.

I don't know really... I mean, their last album was dire, it goes without saying. But that was only because of Torniquet Man, Pridgen's overcomplex drumming and the general intensity of the whole album. Omar has mentioned that the next one will be "acoustic", so I have high hopes for it. This could mean a lot of things, but if it means that we're going to get songs like Miranda... and Televators, then I'm rushing to HMV faster than a 5 year old girl from a Grind-Core festival.

New Devin Townsend, perhaps Pain of Salvation, hopefully new Beardfish and The Tangent, perhaps a new Fromuz release, King Crimson, maybe Magma, probably new Phideaux, (for me) new Steven Wilson, and so forth. That's what I'm looking forward to. Maybe there are a few more. We'll see. It should be an interesting year to look out for.

^^ I thought Devin Townsend had retired from music - hopefully it was just a break. I would love to see him create another album.
Looking forward to anything new from Steven Wilson. OSI is suppose to come out with a new album with Gavin Harrison on drums.
As much as I would love to see it happen but I seriously doubt it will, new King Crimson.
I am not really aware of much else coming out next year.
Edit - just remembered, *Shels is suppose to release Plains Of The Purple Buffalo. I also think Explosions in the Sky is working on a new one as well.

Actually I hope Rush will finallty come to Argentina , there's always been rumours.
A Di Meola , Clarke & Ponty concert would be great too. Or Fripp with the League of Crafty Guitarrists.

Not retired in the slightest. Just not touring any. More of the Ziltoid sort of format, as far as I know, though completely different. Wikipedia says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devin_Townsend#New_Album:_Late_2008.
I am positive that the "late 2008" header is a carryover from earlier when he thought he might make it by then. Last I heard, estimates put it at sometime spring perhaps.

No , I missed it Last band I went to see was Iron Maiden in Ferro this year.
But I was lucky enough 4 years ago to go to G3 (Satriani , Vai and FRIPP). Of course I was a powermetalhead at the time , so I wanted Malmsteen to come. Did not appreciate Fripp the way I'd do now.
You had to be there to believe it , Fripp was booed during one hour by the metalheads.

Damn metalheads Seriously, I now realise why international bands never dare to come to Argentina When I went to see Aussie Floyd, some stupid guys were laughing and telling jokes about them in spanish.
Anyways, luckily, when I went to see Ponty, Clarke and Meola last year nothing disrespectful happend, surely because of the type of audience.

Fripp (as usual) sounding very down on anything King Crimson-related happening anytime soon. Belew HAD some live dates scheduled on the west coast with other acts, which negated the Crimson Anniv Celebration out west. NOW those dates have been cancelled.........but Fripp now says he's moved on from Crimsoning for now.
And Fripp has stated the whole idea of writing, recording, touring isn't in the cards for him many times on his blog.

It's going to be different, allright - I heard a bit of the new material live last October when they opened for PT. A lot more electronic and danceable beats, not so much space-rock - but it still sounded awsome. The album hasn't come out yet and Deus Ex Machina is already one of my favorite songs ever.
