I don't have a worst prog lineup -- I just want to congratulate you on spelling "gist' correctly.
I believe that's the first time that's ever happened in this forum!
Weigh too go!
Or should that be whey?

Now, I'm going to have to contradict you there. Asia were no good at being Yes or King Crimson or ELP, because they were too busy being Asia, and they were pretty good at that. A classy rock band, even if the lyrics were pretty dire at times.

Well, true, they did played their songs OK, but, i mean, LOOK AT THE DAMN LINE UP! I still cannot understand how Steve Howe, John Wetton and Carl Palmer managed to play AOR instead of prog when they got together.
In a degree, you are right because they didn't played prog rock at all, so Asia can't be classified as a prog line up (if fact, i don't even know why they are listed here, but that is another story), but they were (and still are) progressive rock legends, so i expect them to be valued as prog musicians. That's why i think Asia sucks so much: it's hard to cope how such talented musicians gave birth to such atrocity!
So, though not being prog at all, Asia IS listed here in PROG-related, so i think its fair to list them here.

Okay, I'll play now.
Worst prog band lineup:
Milli & Vannilli -- Tag-team vocals
Tiny Tim -- Ulelele & Guitar
Danny Partridge -- Bass
That Guy at the Mall (Remember, back the 70s, demonstrating that keyboard?) -- Keyboards
Some Cheap, Crappy, Shorting-out, Primitive, Unreliable 80s Drum Machine -- "Drums"
Kewl!

Pfeh. It was the 80s I think the thing that struck me about their debut was how much I liked their take on 'AOR' (a few block harmonies, but otherwise a clear album, catchy melodies, a bit of depth, individually memorable songs). The playing was still great, the progression was there around the edges. Honestly, I see no reason that musicians should stick to one 'genre' all the time, particularly when, like prog, it's not really a genre.
Anyway, Open Your Eyes ... one of the better prog songs of the 80s.

I could have rested my case here, but what the hell. . .
I think the thing that struck me about their debut was how much I liked their take on 'AOR' (a few block harmonies, but otherwise a clear album, catchy melodies, a bit of depth, individually memorable songs). The playing was still great, the progression was there around the edges. Honestly, I see no reason that musicians should stick to one 'genre' all the time, particularly when, like prog, it's not really a genre.
Well, i don't think that musicians should stay in only one genre for ever, i just hope they release good music and, in my opinion, Asia is far from good, even the "just good". In fact, i think that AOR is the worst progressive rock offspring, but hey, that's me you know. . . we don't necessarily need to think alike. Hell, i bet a lot of people would say that some band from (insert any prog genre that emerged after the 70's) deserves to be here. But still, I think Asia was a bad thing.
Anyway, Open Your Eyes ... one of the better prog songs of the 80s.
I don't want to be misunderstood here. I am very open minded when it comes to music. But the thing is that, even between AOR fans Asia is not an unanimity. In fact, most only like the debut and maybe their second album and their last one, but that's all. Besides, I'd like to stay with Martian Chronicles as one of the best prog songs from the 80's .
