From rollingstone.com/rockdaily Chris Squire reports that he's also started a new venture with former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett -- "We may call it Squackett," the bassist quips -- that will be released in early 2009, with European dates in the spring. "We're nearly 75 percent done," Squire says. "It's real good. Steve Hackett is a very underrated writer and actually a very good singer. We're doing a lot of harmonizing, and some of it is almost in the Crosby, Stills & Nash vein." |

Neat, I'll be there, I'll be there, I will be there, buying the album at least.  Hackett and Squire, an interesting combination we haven't seen before. Hackett and Howe didn't turn out so well, but then they were trying for commercial success. Not in their musical nature, I suspect. I think at this point in time H & S may be embracing prog with their venture.... And I don't think Hackett has ever worked with as strong of a bass player as Squire. ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

| Sounds cool! I'm skeptical but optimistic. The Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young thing kind of throws me off, as I would be hoping for some kind of "Voyage of The Fish Out of Water" megalodon album, but you can't always get what you want, right? |

| Cool combination, it would be quite interesting, though as some said, the CS&N style does turn me off a little bit, not that I don't like CS&N, in fact I enjoy them a lot, but with the calliber of both I would have expected something more innovating or at least more Rock oriented with of course the Prog roots. |

Sounds great. I do think the CSN reference was probably tongue-in-cheek...surely (a) they wouldn't play that style of music and (b) don't think they can sing remotely that well. I don't think you have to worry about Hackett playing like Stephen Stills Didn't Steve and Chris do a short Christmas project last year? Maybe they really hit it off...I'll really look forward to hearing what they come up with! ------------- Signature Writers Guild on strike |

Was it Rutherford playing the bassline that intros Watcher of the Skies ? If so, can we say that Hackett plays well with others, to use kindergarden measures.

sounds interesting.... doubtful it will get off the ground... love Squire... but he has..well... been a bit flaky over the years. Then there is the matter of his bass-playing..... he's been phoning it in for years... and also was one of the main drivers behind the 'commercial' yes sound. Wouldn't naturally expect a prog masterpiece.. but be more wary of a H&H reprise as someone mentioned earlier. oh well.... interesting... but not holding breath for anything.. just hope to be surprised. ------------- The Pedro and Micky Experience - When one no longer requires psychotropics to trip |

Wow! This wil be very interesting! I love them both.
And will you please stop complaining about the GTR project! I think that was great stuff!! And calling it commercial music is only slightly true. Sure they had a minor hit with When The Heart Rules The MInd, but the rest of the album is not really commercial, it is very good hard rock with strong guitar work and strong vocals by Max Bacon.
Further, it is unfair to compare GTR with Yes' and Genesis' masterworks of the 70's. You must remember that it was recorded around the same time as Big Generator and Invisible Touch. GTR was sooo much better than those albums!
I recommend the live album GTR did as well called Roundabout (after a certain song that is played!).

The Tokyo Tapes DVD was fantastic, apart from Wetton and Hackett himself, it also features Ian McDonald of King Crimson fame. I would have loved to be there! See my review.
I like Wetton a lot too, but for me he is "just" a great bass player, and a decent vocalist. Squire is a bass God! His sound is so unique and distinctive, no one else can play like that.

I'm wondering too. I can't find any recent news on the internet about it.

Well, his hands are shovel blade size, so he could be expected to be quite tall. My beloved wife Jean also has shovel blades for hands; they are very helpful for her piano playing. One of her nicknames at College was "Bigfoot", by the way; yes, her feet are quite something too. And now I better hide from her somewhere... -------------  BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue. |
