Subject: What do you drive?
Date Posted: April 17 2005 at 07:06

Yesterday I finally got rid of my Opel Vectra in favour of a Peugeot 406, 1,8l LPG-G3 (I'm so enviromentally friendly, or is it just cheap? ) The steering wheel's on the left (...In this country they drive on the wrong side of the road!"- sir Micheal Caine!) but otherwise it's perfect..

Anyway, the Vectra's gone, Clarkson would be proud!

I've got a right "new toy" buzz going on..

http://photobucket.com/albums/v423/emdiar/?action=view&current=DSC02782.jpg">

Got flashed for speeding an hour after leaving the forecourt!.

So, what do you guys drive, and what's your view on the apparent necessity of every urban housewife to 'school-run' their kids in a Hummer, even though the school is a hundred miles from the nearest mountain?

Red 1995 Geo Prism, has 120,000 miles on it and runs like it has 20,000. Doesn't have the greatest features, but it gets me from point A to point B!

looks like that, but mine isn't wrecked and destroyed.

Don't they tend to be driven by aggressive/suicidal 20-something maniacs? Wink

When Accords pass me at ludicrous speeds, going up a blind hill on the highway, inevitably there's a ballcap-wearing young male at the wheel....Stern Smile

Nice car, though!Smile

Me? A new navy blue Toyota Corolla -- I love it! Stylish, peppy, great handling, excellent fuel economy, and reliability! Go Toyota!Big smile

1997 Audi A4 1.8 Turbo.

It was a compromise, since it's a 4-door saloon and I prefer coupes - but it's got plenty of torque AND 40MPG.

Can't complain - even if Clarkson thinks it's a boring car.

(This isn't mine, but, number plate apart, it looks identical - even the colour.

I'm a Beetle fan...I've owned a few of the old ones, as well as a '68 Camper, and right now I have a 2002 one that I'm about to give up for a hybrid (haven't decided which one yet).

In an ideal situation I wouldn't drive at all, but out here in the desert trying to get anywhere with walking and/or public transportation is a bit unreasonable.

Currently driving a Jeep wrangler. 6 cyl. Softtop. And
unlike many 4 wheel drive owners, I actually take it off
road occasionally.
Maybe this should be another thread, but here goes:

Cars I Have Owned:

1973 Chevy Monte Carlo (Nicknamed "Deathmobile")
1979 Ford Thunderbird (Known as "Pimpmobile")
1978 Mecury Monarch    ( Called " The Time Bomb")
1986 Chevy S-10 Blazer      ("The Slug")
1999 Jeep Wrangler     (Once it starts to fall apart, it
too will have a name)

I don't know why, but my friends always have a name for
my cars. I take it as a compliment. But I doubt it is.

Drive one of these...

nice motor - mine's the 2.0 litre which means it's a bit slow on the uptake but is comfy and, crucially, is designed by Pininfarina - unlike modern Pugs which look like basking sharks with overbite.

Also has CD autochanger for progtastic journeys guaranteed to drive the girlfriend bonkers - unless it's stacked with Radiohead then she's happy.

Ah yes, how she just loves it when I say 'great, 8 hours of Yes in the boot, let's go!!'

My dream car would be the aston Martin Volante in British racing green but I would settle for the Virage or the DB8.

I plan to buy the Saab 93 with the 1,8l 122 HP engine but with a sunroof and no airco.

I can't imagine all the money (and time is money) I could save by NOT owning a car. Insurance, (rising) gas payments, maintenance, etc. That's something I don't like about America. Seriously, if you don't own a car, you dont' do anything! Everything here is so spread out. The only places you could do that is if you lived downtown, and that doesn't work if you have a family. I liked Europe a lot better.
