These 2 albums are one of my Sabbath's faves, for 1 reason, well maybe more but 1 of them is the Progression the band made from their first up to these. These albums IMO are Heavy Prog, but this poll is not to move them to there just to know which album is considered by Prog fans the CLOSEST thing to Heavy Prog.
Surely Paranoid and their debut had 1 or 2 very Proggy songs, but the band was really a Heavy Rock band in the 70's. Eg: War Pigs. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath for me it is. 6 songs out of 8 have at least some Prog elements, and each goes out through more than 5 minutes, with A LOT of time changes! Compared to their earlier stuff, or at least Rock in general. Sabotage on the other hand has 2 mini-"epics", which are very proggy as well, so it's a difficult choice.. but my vote, as I said before goes to the OVERALL Proggier Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. EDIT: Oh one more thing, I was conscious about the section where this poll to be. I did it on Prog Polls cause I thought it was the most suitable because this poll is about Sabbath's PROGGY albums and not just Music in General, though if you have to move it I have no dilema.

My opinion about which one is the proggiest???? musically equal.........both have some awesome prog moments.
So what will make the difference??........the cover artwork

I prefer the "creative" Sabotage, which some people belive it's stupid

| SBS!!!! Its a great album, one of their best. Unfortunately, Sabotage is a dud. I don't know if it was the remastering job on the CD or if the original source was the same, but that album sounded boring, aside from the lack-of-anything-intersting songs. |

Their two best albums with Ozzy imo. Sabotage narrowly get the vote, for sentimental reasons more than anything else....oh and of course for 'The Writ'

Sabotage...for me, the best Black Sabbath album, and surely the most progressively oriented album... ------------- Music has always been a matter of energy to me. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath out of those. Never Say die has some really progressive moments aswell. Why isn't it mentioned here? |

Yes, that's the kind of thing that would prevent me from voting in any poll: two records "against" each other, without a more complex question. Moreover, for heavy-metal fans, Black Sabbath's "progessive era" rather started with "Sabotage" (hey, they had Rick Wakeman on keyboards!) and ended with "Never Say Die". In other words, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" is seen as the last "classical" album. Well, "classical"... I mean... For Black Sabbath. |

You're wrong, Sabotage didn't have Rick Wakeman, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath had on Sabbra Cadabra, so your hipothesis or whatever must be mistaken. Sabbath started with their first album already with some Prog oriented feel, at least Heavy Prog. Then Paranoid continued with some more, already mentioned War Pigs. Master of Reality was/is Sabbath's heaviest album IMO from Ozzy's era at least, and Vol 4 is rather weak, though some good ideas. With Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Black Sabbath really moved to a new direction on sound. Adding orchestral arrangements, acoustic guitars on top of electric, diverse tempos, etc.. It went on even further with Sabotage, with the mini "epics" The Writ and Meglomania. I'll listen to Never Say Die once again, though I remember it to be quite mediocre, even Technical Ectasy(?) was better, having Dirt Women which is killer. |

| SBS for me - one of their best albums ever, very solid and consistent. Sabotage, on the other hand, is somewhat dull, though I enjoy "Supertzar" immensely. |

Hey man , I own Vol 4 it ain't weak at all.Never say die has some amazing tracks like "Air dance" , Junior's eyes or Johny blade , but it also features wery veak numbers

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Ozzy started to get pissed of when Iommi started to bring in choirs, horns, strings etc. I'm sure it had something to do with his loss of interest. Here's my immaginary Sabbath Prog Compilation released in 1979 as a stop gap in between Never Say Die and Heaven & Hell entitled

Pretty funny fantasy there. This is the 79 minute cd age though, got to through in a few more. I would throw in Who are you, A National acrobat, Junior's eyes, might even be tempted to throw in Sleeping Village.
