You know what it is like? You use up all your grey cells working out where the mines are located. Then - on some occassions - it is down to pure luck to choose where one, sometimes a pair of mines are located. How do you deal with it?
Depends on what mood I am in.

It can't be out of pure luck, since the number you unlock tells you how many bombs are around that cell, so you gotta use logic to figure out where the bomb(s) is (are).
I usually play it, it's fun, but at hard difficulty, I always get in a "dead end", and when it explodes, it happens long time into the game (sometimes close to finishing it) and I get angry.

I don't do Minesweeper...I'm more of a Spider Solitaire man...

How I wish I could paste in a screenshot into this reply. But in the true spirit of open debate; I encountered on my next game such a situation. In the very top left hand corner it went something like
1 1 B 1 ? 1 1
M2 1 3 ? 3 3
M2 1 M MM2
1 1 1 2 3 22
Where B is a blank space, M is a mine and ? is the pot luck choices.
I hope you see my point. Which of the ? is it?
But nothing to get worked up about. It's only a game

Sudoku is cool, but imagine how cool it would be if there were mines in addition to the numbers.

Minesweeper is a game for dweebs with no friends. Dungeons and Dragons- now there's a game.

Spider is an insidious little game and I hate it with a passion. I will delete the .exe from my PC... just after this one last game...
I rely 100% on luck when playing Minesweeper and never try and work-out where the mines are - my best score on Beginner level is 4 seconds. ... haven't quite managed to complete it using that method on any other level yet, but I will.

Other. If for example I encounter a situation where it's down to luck, I'll usually look for some grey slots which have a low probability of mines. If there is a line of "1" slots then there'll be few mines in the vincinity. If all the grey slots bordering the open slots have a high density, I usually click a random slot elsewhere.
BTW: I'm not playing it often ... but when I install Windows on a PC I'll sometimes play it and try to finish the beginner mode in less than 10 seconds.

sometimes you have to gamble at that game. this is especially sad if you have found all but 1 bomb, and you have no way to find out which of the last 2 remaining squares that bomb is under

oh, I only play at increased difficulty: maximum size with 210 bombs. that's a higher percentage of bombs per square than the standard games. extremely difficult that way; sometimes only a guess helps (or not)

I never choose the wrong one; I always put in "size 99999999999999999999999999" and "bombs 1."
So easy, even I can do it.

I don't get upset, but having playing Minefield it's confirmed my belief that such things as statistics and chance are a myth, it's pure Murphy, all the way.
