I mean, seriously? Who is this dude? He was some kinda nameless producer, "collaborating" with the Moody Blues (c'mon, for reals yo? Those dudes lived in a bubble!).
And then, bam! Outta nowhere he grabs some old prog rockers at the height of their non-popularity and creates The War of the Worlds, so cheesey it's good (although, at points, not quite faithful to the book...you know, like EVERY adaptation of the thing).
A few years later he...releases a compilation of the one album! Puts on a musical! Does a disco version! Does a...a...a video game? Huh? What the crap? This man, this Jeff Wayne, whoever he is, makes Arthur Brown seem like a normal human being.
He does this Spartacus thing, right? And he doesn't grab any of his old sidemen, his Wakemen or Haywords or Burtons (how the crap did he get Richard Burton, whose creepy floating head inhabits all the stage videos? That's the one that really throws me for a loop), and it's universally reviled, as opposed to loved like the first one.
Hmm...
So what does he do? He don't play instruments, I'm wondering about the writing part. Does he just hire people?
HE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A PICTURE ON HIS PAGE HERE!!!
I don't think he's real.

you're right, I suspect 'Jeff Wayne' is really a well-funded think tank in Montana that tried to cash in on the 'prog rock craze' |

Oh he does exist. I think his father had something to do with War of the Worlds as well, if I remember correctly. In fact, all you have to do is read his Wikipedia entry. This thread is now redundant.  -------------

The wikipedia article WAS just War of the Worlds. Ugh. I find everything about that guy's career so... random. A composer of advertising jingles who went on to make musicals of The War of the Worlds and Spartacus. Who likes to play tennis. Huh. His WotW musical is great stuff, though.
