A Warm Welcome to the Prog Metal Releases Forum....Hug

This thread has been created to 'Spread The Word' about forthcoming Prog Metal Releases.  The information contained in the 2nd post will be updated by me as often as I am able, by scouring information from Label and Prog Sites, MySpace & Personal Contacts.  The idea behind this is to promote the music of all prog metal bands on the Archives to as wide an audience as possible, in the hope of increasing both their exposure and record sales.  For this, special attention will (hopefully) be given to young bands on smaller record labels.

As many of you may know however, my love of Prog Metal tends to be biased toward the traditional, symphonic variety, rather than either the Experimental or Technical varieties.  As such, in order to ensure the success of this thread, I am asking for your help in 3 main ways:

1) If you know of any forthcoming Progressive Metal releases which you would like to see added to this list, please either post the information in this thread, or PM me with the details, and it shall be added ASAP.

2) Please visit this thread on a regular basis for updates, and by all means let everyone know which releases you are most looking forward to hearing!

3) For those of you with MySpace accounts, I would be delighted if you wished to use this information in a bulletin to spread the word to your contacts about forthcoming releases... There isn't too much 'intellectual property' attached to this document...after all, I compiled it...Wink

That it is; the Presto Ballet album is a terrific album.  And it appears from the list above that we have a lot of good new music coming our way.  The most recent Evergrey was a bit of a letdown, but the rest of their output is quite good.  I'm definitely curious to see what they have come up with on their new album.

yes, this is strange...they have an album out in a few weeks, and yet there is nothing on their MS page, or their record labels page advertising the fact....Confused

maybe they don't want anyone to buy it?

I've added a list of upcoming releases to PF ... in the upper right corner of the start page. Releases are listed automatically if you add them with a release date in the future ... maybe we can combine our efforts. Big%20smile

I'd be delighted to look into that, Mike...having chatted to a number of people (both in and out of PA), this is something which is clearly missing, as it can be soo very time-consuming to collate the data in the first place.  It could be a wonderful tool, but really needs the help of several people for it to be truly comprehensive...Smile

incidentally, I';ve just been listening to 'Burst'...interesting stuff indeed...Wink

RIVERSIDE

Anno Domini High Definition

Between the concerts, preparing live dvd and realizing some solo projects, the band has already started to work on the material for the newest record. Its title will probably be "Anno Domini High Definition". This record is planned to be the most energetic of all those released so far. Soon, there will be a separate column added to our website, where you may learn about the process of its production.

The band will start to record in January 2009 and the release is planned at the turn of May and June 2009.

Adagio Update

Master of the new album has just been completed. The mastering has been done by Bjorg Englemann (Rammstein, Meshuggah...) at Cutting Room Mastering studios in Sweden earlier this month.
"Bjorn did an amazing job, the result is heavy as f*%k and make the songs even more powerful !!! We're a 110 % happy with the result"

Archangels In Black is set to be released in January 2009 in Europe and Australia.
Name of the new label will be announced in the coming days.

Tomorrow's Eve

Since finding a stable home on Lion Music in 2006 with “Mirror Of Creation II -Genesis 2”. German’s based metallers Tomorrow’s Eve have gone from strength to strength thanks to the exceptionally high and original quality of their music coupled with an ultra-powerful live show that has been impressing audiences across Europe over the last 2 years.

Now, Tomorrow’s Eve are back again with a powerhouse of an album. “Tales From Serpentia”, a collage of short stories, written by a twisted mind; dark and dreadful fictions from the abyss. Musically Tomorrow’s Eve still performs progressive metal, but with an emphasis on catchy melodic vocal lines and heavy riffs. The band plays complex but always accessible songs, holding interesting details to discover over repeated listens. In short: very dark, very melodic, and very accessible.

Shadrane

(Jared, Shadrane are yet to be listed in the archives (although noted under Vivien Lalu's main band Lalu) but have posted it anyway, if it's out of order please feel free to delete.)

http://www.myspace.com/shadrane for new album samples.

SHADRANE is the metal/progressive band-project of Vivien Lalu (Lalu, Hubi Meisel), Joop Wolters (Dutch guitar virtuoso) and the legendary brothers rhythm section of Matt and Gregg Bissonette (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai etc). From a vocal perspective SHADRANE makes use of different singers, according to the tracks needs with vocals coming from Göran Edman (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, Street Talk, Brazen Abbot), Björn Jansson (Tears Of Anger, Ride The Sky, Beyond Twilight) and Henrik Båth (Darkwater) along with some backing vocals from Martin LeMar (Tomorrow’s Eve).

Musically “TEMPORAL” is a blend of prog-metal (Temporal, She Writes), power-metal (Betrayal, Morpheus) and more pop driven rock (Rainy, Consider It) - yet Shadrane’s own personality shines through all the compositions.  "Temporal" is a must own release for all fans of bands from diverse selections such as Savatage and Dream Theater

Kekal

The title "Audible Minority" is based to the fact that the music on the album has mapped itself into the extreme minority status; something beyond recognition of the musical norms. "Audible Minority" is a stateless, nameless, and label-less manifesto made from all the bitterness and pain. The album that is entirely bleak, gloom and dark.

Almost 2 years in the making, "Audible Minority" has been constructed during various personal events in life. It all began in September 2006, before the release of "The Habit of Fire", and continued to shape itself up until May 2008.

Final Track-Listing:
1. The Vampire Song  [ http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vZnJlZWRvd25sb2Fkcy5sYXN0LmZtL2Rvd25sb2FkLzE2NTQ2NTA5OC9UaGUlMkJWYW1waXJlJTJCU29uZy5tcDM= - download the song at Last.fm ]

9. Shuffling Biorhythms
10. All That Matters

After some discussion with the record label who will release the official version (CD and digital), we agree to push the release date to December 2008.

This Haven

http://www.myspace.com/thishaven - www.myspace.com/thishaven

(J can you check these out to see whether they should be looked at by the PM team)

This Haven - Today A Wisper, Tomorrow a Storm, out 20 OCTOBER Sensational debut from Örebro, Sweden based metal / rock/ progressive act THIS HAVEN. An unique mixture of metal, stoner, hardcore and progressive rock. Produced, mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Opeth, Katatonia, Dissection). Cover art by Matt Vickerstaff (My Dying Bride covers amongst others). 'I have been a fan of THIS HAVEN since day one. There is something quite unique about the way they combine all their different influences, to come up with something fresh yet insanely heavy and catchy. With epic tracks like "The Fallen" and monstrous beasts like "Hero of your hell" or "I will Decieve" This Haven can really break into the major league of metal!! This album have been quite the journey for all of us. But for me it was worth every second.' Dan Swanö / Mixengineer, July 2008.

DAEDALUS IS SIGNED TO GALILEO RECORDS AND WILL RELEASE THE ALBUM “THE NEVER ENDING ILLUSION” Daedalus is a band from Genoa, Italy. They joined together in 2000 and startet working on their songs drawing inspiration from different musical genres, trying to define a peculiar style and sound.

After a period of hard work, band settlement and a good number of live gigs, they recorded their first album in 2003. Leading far from a mistake (a self-made recording made with the little experience they had at the time). This was published by a small italian label.

Some sections of the album are performed by the italian vocalist Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth, www.labyrinthmusic.it). The tracks were mixed by Roland Grapow.

::THE NEVER ENDING ILLUSION
Almost each of the ten songs deals about a different way of being concerned with the dualism between reality and dream/illusion. The lyrics draw a sort of path starting from facing the every-day life, passing through the sensation of "something" existing beyond the common aspects of life, then ending with a contemplation of our own dreams, in a way that could be seen as the closing of the circle.

Right now MARK WILKINSON is working on the artwork.

The CD will be released early next year.

Metal Mind Productions presents the re-release of seventh studio album by Voivod - "The Outer Limits" (1993). This was the last album Voivoid recorded with their vocalist Snake until, exactly 10 years later, they released their self-titled reunion album in 2003. "The Outer Limits" features a perfect blend of past formulas with new and innovative ideas. On this album, Voivod mixed various thematic and musical elements with ease, which resulted in their most powerful, diversified, and mature release. This album is a benchmark for Voivod. Includes a cover of Pink Floyd's song, "The Nile Song" (from the album "More"). The booklet features a 3D graphic design, which can be viewed through special 3DG glasses that come along with the CD. The new digipak edition is limited to 2000 copies. Digitally remastered using 24-Bit process, released on a golden disc.

Re-release of "The Outer Limits" will be available on 29th September 2008 in Europe and 28th October 2008 in USA (via MVD).

Ulysses - The Gift of Tears (U.S. release November 18th)

http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=883 - http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=883

http://www.ulysses-online.nl/promomovie/"> “The Gift of Tears” is the long expected new album by Ulysses. After the release of the brilliant debut album “Symbioses” in 2003, the expectations were high for this new album. “The Gift of Tears” takes off where “Symbioses” left you.

This is the masterpiece on which the progressive rock fans have been waiting for. When the band released its debut, critics saw the band as the new big thing in the genre. With ‘The gift of tears’ they released yet another great album and will prove the critics right. Ulysses has proven to be a band that appeals to a broad audience. This album will appeal to music fans from (symphonic) rock to (progressive) metal music. The unique combination of the neo-prog influenced keyboard player
Ron Mozer and metal oriented guitarist Sylvester Vogelenzang de Jong, gives Ulysses its very distinctive sound.

The 7 tracks will stick to you like glue, each song with its own identity and story. The songs on the album vary from bare bone piano ballads to virtuoso progressive epic songs. Orchestrations and participation of serveral guest vocalist, like Mike di Sarro of Los Angeles based Prymary, make the album stand out in its genre.

Besides great music the album tells real stories about real people. This has enabled Ulysses to incorporate real emotions into their compositions. Greeve and Joy are the emotions everybody has to coop with during life, on this album Ulysses succeeded in bringing these emotions alive in their music. “The Gift of Tears” is a CD that should be at the top of every Progressive Rock and Progressive Metal fan’s wish list.

U.S. release November 18th. More information will follow very soon.. for the time being feel free to listen to some excerpts and visit the bands website(s)

Halcyon Way

Atlanta's progressive power/thrash band HALCYON WAY have inked a deal with U.S. label Nightmare Records. Their debut CD, "A Manifesto For Domination", will be released worldwide on November 11, 2008.

The album was produced by guitarist Jon Bodan, mixed by Lasse Lammert (Alestorm), and mastered by James Murphy (Testament, Death).

Sounding like a cross between Megadeth, Dio, and Fates Warning, the band is known and recognized for its energetic and theatrical live performances, blazing guitar, intricate drumming, and three-part vocal harmonies. They have appeared live with acts such as Helloween, Symphony X, Kamelot, Brand New Sin, Cellador, Circle II Circle, To/Die/For, Doro Pesch, Strapping Young Lad, and many others. In addition, they appeared live at the ProgPower USA Showcase in 2004 and 2007, alongside bands such as Primal Fear, Threshold, Freak Kitchen, and Virgin Steele. Halcyon Way also performed twice at Rocklahoma in 2008, alongside bands such as Queensrÿche & Tesla, and many others.

We can probably shoot a PM over to Big Boss (who is Shawn Gordon from ProgRock Records) and see if he has any additional info.  Their previous album was released on ProgRock Records (or at least distributed).  I have no idea if this one will be or not, but he could be a good source.

of course, we could do that Scott...you're absolutely right...Approve

however....

as far as I'm concerned, the purpose of this thread is for a few of us to have a quick trawl around the record label's homepages, perhaps once every fortnight, and create a (reasonably) up to date list of forthcoming PM releases, for the benefit of our PA members, and the site generally...Approve

if others want to take this further, in an effort to unearth possible gems that we've vaguely heard about through the mysterious ether of the 'intrawebz', then feel free to do so...but I won't be joining in.

I'm sorry, but (contrary to how it presently appears) I'm just too busy to be able to offer this level of commitment...Embarrassed

that's right Scott...I don't want to appear grumpy, but as a general rule, you and I lead busy lives, and have other commitments on PA besides this thread; its all a question of time allocation.

If someone wishes to make more of the concept behind this thread for PA, then they'd be truly welcome, as I think it could be a really useful asset... but left to me, it will be on average, a once-a-fortnight update...Wink

As I've said before J I'll do whatever you believe is necessary. Can you PM me as to what you think I can do or what is needed and we'll take it from there?

If that helps your commitments to other roles within the site all the better.  Big%20smile

The release date for Cynic's new album 'Traced In Air' has had to be pushed back to Nov 17th (Europe) and 25th (US) for manufacturing reasons...

Notice Of Intended Closure

Cry

Firstly, I would just like to thank everyone who has both contributed to visited this thread over the last couple of months, to pick up information on the latest prog metal releases...Clap

I'm just going to advise that having got this particular thread off the ground, we will be closing it down over the next week or so.

However, do not dispair...Big smile.  None of you will have failed to notice the incredible work that Steve Mallett had put in towards making this facility what it is, so it will come as no surprise to learn that he is in the process of creating a considerably better product (in fact, it will be a throbbing beast of a thread!!) to replace this one with.

Steve has been working very hard behind the scenes recently, contacting both bands & record labels, to enable PA to offer a very informative, up to date and accurate service on future prog metal releases and information.  He will also be offering this in a greatly improved, professional looking format, reflecting his considerably greater PC skills than those posessed by yours truly...Embarrassed.

We all look forward to this becoming a facility which PA can be rightly proud of, going forward....Approve

My sincere apologies Mike!  ClapClapClapClapClap to you too.

As you will see in the new thread PF will be recognised greatly as a source for further band information and ratings. I hope when it is launched you will agree.

But if you're going to use my site as a resource ... keep in mind that I can publish the data as an RSS feed, this can make things much easier. Let me know if you're interested!
