Do you have also problems with their site? In my computer there is no information about groups, just frames, and no posibility to join the mail list.

I definitely have to make a choice:heavy psychedelic stoner, space rock and metal among pothhead pixies
(Roadburn Festival 2009) or intricate musicianship, avant prog patterns and zeuhl wortz with RIO freaks
(Carmaux 2009)?

one nice thing about Carmeaux, apart from the music : if you plan to stay on the festival site, a multi-sport& culture complexe you will stay in the same place as most of the musicians, (a sport hotel, which is quite cheap BTW) have breakfast with them and a chat, get autographs, do the groupie etc..... the first festival two years ago was great !!!

a pic of the site, it's a former open air mine and the big excavation in the middle is now an artificial lake where you can surf,...so bring your Magma and your Hawai T-Shirt

BTW  How do you say "Good Vibrations" in Kobaïan?Big%20smile

I'm happy to see Combat Astronomy getting a spot with this prestigious lineup. They definitely deserve it.

What's everyone doing accomodation-wise and when do tickets go on sale?

I need to commit myself to this and sort my passport out and then work out how on earth I'll be getting there and then where I'll be staying.

If Chris and/or Melissa are going, is it possible to maybe travel together on the train from London?

If I can make it, might I also join such a party? Embarrassed It's possible that the timing's going to be really bad for me, as I'm hoping to start training to be a teacher this autumn (I haven't had my PGCE interview yet so I've no idea what I'll be doing in a few months) but even so, if there's any way I can wangle it, I'll be going to this one. As soon as my plans solidify I'll post about them here.

Well since Chris (and Flora, maybe?), David and James are part of it, normally Martin Alucard (living in Paris) and I (Brussels, but need to go through Paris to get there) and most likely my girlfriend,

we can maybe set up athread inside the collab zone to see how we will manage to meet up.

I definitely think we should arrange something together.  I gather Paris SNCF is very busy in rush hour... I think I have to change there to get on a train to Toulouse.  I'd prefer to travel in good company.

As none of my friends are into this kind of music, it is unfair of me to ask them. LOL

As far as I know, September is fine for me.  I just have to sort out my passport... grrr!  I have a form, I just need some photos.

The massif central is just as beautiful as TuscannyStarStarStarStarStar. There is plenty to see in the area, including Albi, Castre (this Cathar country), Cordes, Castelnau >>> fortified villages a gogo.

Slightly colder, though!! But I don't think this should scare NorwegiansLOL!!!

Life is terrible: I'm not sure to be able to come.
If I'm lucky, I could begin to work around the 1st of september. How could I ask for having a four-days holiday after only two weeks at my job???
And how could I "pray" for not having this job???

Hello,

I will be going for sure to this 2009 edition of R.I.O on September.
I already have flight tickets, train tickets, and reservation in festival area.
I will be flying from Los Angeles to Paris, then taking a train from Paris to Carmaux
I went to the 2007 edition and it was fantastic but surprisingly the line-up this time got even better!
So count me in for sure (A friend of mine from texas is also going and we're meeting up in Paris)
Anyone else going for sure?

Posted By: Alucard
Date Posted: August 04 2009 at 15:42
Yep!
BTW1 I was there too in 2007!
BTW2 Have you seen the shuttle timetable either from Albi or Carmaux main station to the festival area on friday 18?

That's great!
I'm gonna get there on Thursday night and I'm gonna be staying at the hotel of the festival called cap d' couverte, so I'm probably not gonna be taking the shuttle too much (maybe one day to check out the toulouse museum) but I'm most likely going to stay around the festival area.
I'm really excited to see all of the bands but specially Magma, Koenji, and the Univers Zero/Present concert.

I've also checked out the trains from Paris to Camaux, but it looks like a very long ride, isn't it easier to just fly to Toulouse?
Which train are you taking?

I've also thought about flying straight to Toulouse but it's a way more tiring trip from the US (you have to wait almost a whole day at the NY airport before leaving to Europe) and also more expensive than to fly to Paris and then taking a train to Carmaux.
I did this same itinerary on the 2007 edition (flying to Paris then taking a train) and I really loved the train journey because even though it's a nine hour trip, the views that you see are beautiful so it doesn't even become tiring. I really recommend taking the train instead of flying to Toulouse.
I'm taking train #3641to Carmaux on Thursday 17th departing at 2 pm and arriving at Carmaux at 10:55pm.

I wonder if I'm not going to suffer the eight-hour long train trip: it sounds less complicated.

Ten days to go (even less)

-------------
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Hello !

It's a great pleasure for me to be back to RIO festival far from Japan again!
In 2007, It was a fantastic experience.
I'm very looking forward for those days in there and all the concerts
especially Charles Hayward and Univers Zero.

See you in Albi and Carmaux soon !

...But I haven't done any preration for long journey yet.

what about meeting saturday morning in the breakfast room of the auberge. I will put some distinctive sign on the table let's say a Gentle Giant CD...I know Victor (77)  & Hugues (Sean Trane) so for the others who want to join look out for GG on the breakfast table!
PS I will put optionally on the table Potemkine's Nicolas II ( the band came from the region, from Toulouse)

Just a quick message to all those of you who are heading to Carmaux - have a great time, I'll be there in spirit (if not in fact). I've seen Charles Hayward and Yoshida Tatsuya this year, and I'll be seeing Magma next month in London, but I really regret missing the Present/UZ concerts, especially as I've never seen UZ live.

And especially to Martin & Hugues - eat, drink and be merry, it would have been great to meet up with you guys again but there's always next time - hopefully I'll be seeing you again in the near future.

Well for the second time in a row, it looks like I'll have to pass up on this....

first time was for health reasons

this time is for family reason

I've seen Guapo 5 times, Magma 7 times, UZ a dozen times, Present also... Aranis seven times

I was really looking forward to seeing them another time, but I really wanted to see Yolk and The Muffins for a first time. Heyward and the Japanese group were just bonus

I was hoping of talking Joris Vanvinkenroye (of Aranis) to play his contrabass solo between groups in order to promote his first solo album called Basta!

If anyone gets near a computer with an Internet connexion, could anyone tell about the events? I'm not sure to be patient enough to wait until the CD or DVD of each band.

If I may.....

This comes from the hotel owner at Cap'Découverte

If had to cancel due to important family business/problems last friday, the couple that checked in to my room instead was more or less welcome to do so, but under their names, instead of usurping the name of the person who had reserved it for me......

BUT THE ROOM WAS NOT PREPAID..... So when they (the couple) left without paying (probably assuming it was)..... is leaving one of the organizer/host with a hole in his accounting

This will probably not hurt the host too much, but it's certainly not a good thing that this unfortunate happening falls upon him, and might dampen his (the hotel/facility owner) spirits in future events of the genre....

If by any chance someonne (the couple) recognizes their "politically incorrectnerss", could he gat in contact with the owner????

I'm not saying it was someone on this board, butb it would be nice if the (I will write the same post in Prog Archives)
