One of my favorite book series' of all time. I just finished Part V and will be picking up Part VI soon. And yes, they do get better as they go along, though Part IV is very different than the others as it all takes place in a flashback sequence and it is very much a love story. Still excellent though.

I read Gunslinger and thought it was quite good, but like Arkitek I prefer his horror stuff. I'm reading IT at the moment which is bloody amazing.

I didn't like it very much, it was ok, but nothing really spectacular did happen. I read the first three books, and I am curious how the storie develops, but that's all.

Kings books generally appeal to me. I like the stories he wrote under Pseudonym Richard Bachman. The Running Man, The Long Walk and Rage are great short stories (he wrote them before his breakthrough with Carrie, but they were released years after).

Best King Books are It, together with The Stand, Insomnia, The Talisman (with Straub) and the best of the bunch Salem's Lot.

good book! romeo and juliet is the worst of shakespeares works i find, and his genius can only be appreciated in his sonnets. but just because you dont understand it or it doesnt have King on the cover or doesnt have good writing doesnt make it a bad book

Stick with it guys - I'm about halfway through the seventh and final book in the series. Ben, go for book VI as soon as you can - Mr King has managed to write himself into this one (and the final book) Marvellous stuff!

Heh, I sorta wondered if that might be coming with some of the events at the end of Book V . I love the way he is weaving so many of his past books into the Dark Tower story. It is really a great way to close out a phenomenal career.

Yeah his Bachman stories ARE amazing...and very very dark. Man, The Long Walk is just so creepy and cruel, it's frickin terrifying (in a great way ).

Were you like me and really disappointed the first time you saw the movie "The Running Man"? I think it would have been so much cooler if it had been a sprawling manhunt like the book instead of the stupid game show thing.

The Long Walk is one of my favorite Bachman books - such a simple concept, yet so chilling; and don't talk to me about 'The Running Man' movie .

Tuxon: if you liked 'The Talisman', have you read the sequel, 'Black House'? King & Straub make an excellent team...

Re. Jim Garten:

I haven't read Black House yet, I know about it, but the last ten years I haven't been reading so much, It is one of the books I have on my wish-list, so I'll probably read it in the next year or two

The movie The running man wasn't a big dissapointment to me, It had nothing to do with the book (apart from the title and some references) and I didn't expect more similarities in the storie. It was just a great action movie.

best oneliners.

Arnie: Hey lightbulb. Christmastree

Arnie : I'll be back
reply Killian: Only in a re-run (probably not intended, but the association with the title made it more brilliant)
