Lately I'm working on (on piano)
Opening Move - Gryphon Jordrök - Änglagård Rhayader - Camel
Doodling with some key solos from Caravan And anything Handel is much fun to play, good stuff. Maybe I'll mention that on guitar I am utter crap, like usual. Let's go find that flute lying around somewhere... -------------

Always with Me, Always with You by Joe Satriani
Even thought it's one of his least "technical songs" he's always one of those guys that makes his slow pieces more challenging by adding in nuances that are hard to capture. So far I'm about 1 minute into the song.
Ghost Host by Buckethead
It's got some tricky lines in the guitar solo, and there a few bits of the rhythm guitar I haven't figured out yet, but I'm at least 50 per cent done on it overall. -------------

I've being learning the piece "Lilium" by, um, 小西香葉、近藤由紀夫. it's the opening theme to an anime (a fairly shameless one) and it's based on really simple stuff like kyries. but then I'm a simple, punky keyboard player, with no technique to speak of. ;P I've been practising it for so long that I've started to improvise on it and I've memorised the few latin lyrics. ------------- FREEDOM OF SPEECH GO TO HELL |

No. One of my father's friends got a copy of "The Way We Walk - The Longs (Keyboard edition)" or something like that. It has a more easy version in the Medley part, entitled "Firth of Fifth Solo".
I am miserable at learning by ear. Tried this once with "Space-Dye Vest" but failed so badly..

^When you try to learn a song by ear, do you transcribe it as you listen to it? That really helps, ever since I started transcribing, I can figure out the music quicker and allows me to remember it better to. -------------

| The problem is: I hear something, write it down, listen again, and think it is wrong. Means I could write down at least a dozen of variations for each melody. Simply have not talent. At the moment, I am quite frustrated by four different piano melodies in Marillion's "Lavender".. either I need practice or good luck.. |

Learning by ear can be a bitch, especially when it defies a few harmony laws like Cinema Show. I will actually try the transcribing method, it never came to mind before but it seems like an effective idea.
