Levin is definitely the best suited. But Gunn's work should not be discounted, dammit! Apples and Oranges. While Levin is one of the best session/hired sideman to walk the planet, Trey Gunn is a master of the Warr (touch) guitar. Levin pretty much sticks to the bass line, while Trey treds the grounds conventionally covered only by guitarists and keyboardists. Give each his due. They are both as different from the other as day and night. Also, I don't consider Trey Gunn merely as a bassist. If I wanted a bass player, I'd get Jonas Hellborg.
