Take your pick, I am either having delusions of grandeur or I am a glutton for punishment, but I just know that you have all been eagerly awaiting this fourth installment of Prog Gone Wild Life.  There are some fairly well known bands in this list so just maybe all my prog buddies will have some more to say with this poll.  I did leave out a certain very well known band that has enough threads and discussions all on its own, so I figured that there was no reason to discuss Mister Wilson's band in this thread.  I also decided to exclude Salmon from this thread, since they were included in one of the Food Related Prog polls.

The first 3 Prog Gone Wild Life polls as well as the Food Related polls are quickly sinking down the pages of PA, but if you haven't participated yet please track them down and add your two cents.  I am interested in learning about these lesser known bands and I know that there are those out there who can tell me a thing or two about them.

Thanks and have fun.

112 views, 5 votes, and no comments.  If there is anybody out there that would like to talk about one of these bands that are lesser known?  I am interested in reading what you have to say.  Thank you.

Speaking of octopussy, I had expected to see Pussy here.  I guess Nice Beaver will have to do...

Actually, I do like Pavlov's Dog very much.  The singer, who has a voice that many dislike, makes the band for me.  I'm in more of a fusion mood though so, I'll go with Secret Oyster.  Good band.

Pendragon, but it's not like I know more than 3 bands on here decently.

That is one of the goals of these polls.  I have albums from 5 of the above 25 bands.  But all of these bands are on ProgArchives, so I figure that there has to be people out there that know these other bands and want to talk about them or attach a link to another thread where the have talked about them.

The bands that I have some albums from are Oysterhead, Pavlov's Dog, Pelican, Pendragon, and Platypus.  Of these, Platypus is probably my favorite and then Pendragon, Oysterhead, Pavlov's Dog, and then Pelican, which I surprisingly like alot, since I am not into the post-prog bands.

The Oysterhead album is hightly recommended to fans of Primus.  It is a supergroup made up of Trey Anastasio from Phish, Les Claypool from Primus, and Stewart Copeland from The Police.  And as you might expect it sounds like a cross between Phish and Primus.

I already talked about Platypus, when I talked about The Jelly Jam in the Food Related Prog band poll, but this is also a supergroup of sorts made up of Ty Tabor from King's X, John Myung from Dream Theater, Derek Sherinian, ex-Dream Theater, and Rod Morganstein of the Dixie Dregs, amongst others.  They released two albums When Pus Comes to Shove and Ice Cycles, which I highly recommend to fans of King's X.

Logan already touched on Pavlov's Dog.  Progression Magazine had had them on their cover a couple of years back.  I think that they had re-united either to do a new album or some shows.  Up until then I had never heard of them.  At any rate, while on an annual CD shopping spree in Toronto, I ran across the Pampered Menial CD and it caught my attention because of the article in the magazine.  I haven't heard their other albums, but this one is quite good, and as Logan said the singers voice is quite unique.

Over the years I have managed to find a couple of Pendragon albums, but that is it so far.  They are one of the kings of Neo-Prog and I have enjoyed what I have heard.  Unfortunately, I have found their albums to be difficult to find for a reasonable price.  Most of them have to be bought at import prices and I am just too cheap to do that.  The albums that I have from them are The Masquerade Overture, The World, and Acoustically Challenged.  Any recommendations for the next album that I should track down, or that I wouldn't be to disappointed in paying import prices for?

When I was attending the Tiles show at Record Time, which I previously started a thread on, I came across the Pelican album The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw in their used section.  Never having heard anything from them, but having read about them on PA I decided to give it a try.  As I said, I haven't taken to much of anything listed as "Post", but this album, although entirely instrumental, is actually pretty good.  I didn't find it boring like I did other albums listed as "Post".

That is out however. I have tapped out my knowledge base on the above bands with this post.  Now it is up to the rest of you to educate me.

Don't make me edit the listing to add Porcupine Tree just to garnish some interest in this thread. WinkCry

Red Sparowes is a very interesting band (especially since I listened to At The Soundless Dawn for the first time a few days agoWink). It's hard to describe how the band sounds, but I would definitely recommend checking them out. Very amazing instrumental work!Thumbs%20Up

Some great bands on here, New Trolls and NTAS would be my obvious choice since i love them, but there is a band that i really like and a few people talk about them, they are Phoenix from Romania, they released at least 3 wonderful albums (sorry, i dont remember the name right now, Cantofaboule or something?) and i invite everybody to listen to their music.

Pavlov's Dog is good Hard Prog, but anyone who doesn't like Geddy Lee's voice should stay far away!
