Of course, this thread's name is subject to change (olololo). This is the second STC thread, the first one had to be closed. But Jody says we're allowed to open a second, so here she be. But it will be closed eternally if we treat it as a private thread or abuse any of the PA rules.

To new people reading this, you can learn about STC in http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=41185 - the original STC thread . If you're too lazy to check, then here are the basics: We are an extreme left-wing avant-garde project. We began as nothing more than a Moody Noobz-esque joke PA band, but have evolved to an actual band and are currently 3/4 through our first album, which we intend to sell independently/send to record labels and maybe get signed. Big%20smile

Our myspace page is http://www.myspace.com/stctotheextreme - www.myspace.com/stctotheextreme . There you will find a band bio in dire need of updating, as well as info on the current members. We have also completed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AH0GsxHc2E0 - a music video .

So, to initiate the conversation, DT AMIRITE?

Ironically, your grammar was perfect in that sentence. Except you started the sentence with 'and' which isn't a big deal anyway, writers do it all the time.

So, we were going to do some work on our super complex song. I don't know if we should just have one of us start out with a riff and just play in some wacky signature, or if we should go with the drums first.

Posted By: Shakespeare
Date Posted: April 28 2008 at 20:30
I could record the drums, and make really awkward and sudden changes, and weird Koenjihyakkei-esque rhythmic patterns that are impossible to write. And you guys just take it one bit at a time, and play something to it. And then at one point I'll just keep a steady beat and we'll all do polyrhythms, playing something a beat longer or shorter or something, and then all end together, it will be magical.

OMG MINA'S BACK

-------------

Posted By: rileydog22

Ummm, maybe it would be easiest if you were to record it in separate sections, with a four-beat count-in on the high-hat hyphen hypen hyphen so that we would be able to actually play along with it instead of stumbling for two beats while we tried to find the rhythm.

Also, Dylan and I might want to agree on a key/multiple keys for the whole thing so that it isn't just random noise.

Ok, but we have to make it reeeeally tight and cohesive so it doesn't just sound like we're Oorkoona-ing over top. If you want to try something on drums soon, go ahead.

As for me and Jake, Jake could probably just kinda play some repetitive bass notes in time with your drumming so its all throbby and pulsate-y while I kinda riff or whatever over top.

I thought you guys might manage to do alright by listening to five seconds many times, then recording to those five seconds, and then moving to the next five seconds or something. But that might be incredibly hard, I only ever did something similar once and it took quite a while.

That would be a good idea.

I also just remembered something I wrote in garageband that is uber complex and rocks out hardcore. It might be crazy hard for you to learn, but if you listen to it a lot - and I can actually tell you what the notes are if you're having trouble figuring it out - we could do it. It's really short, too, so it wouldn't be too hard. And I could also send Jake a bass track only, and Dylan a guitar track only. Want an upload?

Posted By: Leningrad

I might be able to get Claire in on a song. She told me "she misses singing". But she also told me she hates me.

Dylan can do a decent imitation of the vocals on "War", that's as close as we're getting. And he'll have a chance to show off those vox on Of War. Also, to make Of War easier to make, we could - instead of everyone saying all the lines - assign certain lines to certain people or something.

Yep, I'd say we could do that. But you guys can't be boring; pick a really crazy voice and cackle with it.

Is it possible to have garageband export a score?  I could use some practice reading notes anywho.

-------------

Posted By: Shakespeare
Date Posted: April 28 2008 at 21:04
If you had garageband, I could send you the garageband file (opposed to the MP3 export) and you could read the notes off it, but since you don't, the only way I think I could do that is if I took a picture of the written notes. Which might be ugly. I'll double check, though.

Posted By: rileydog22
Date Posted: April 28 2008 at 21:05
I don't think it uses real musical notation for that, though.  So it would be really tedious to read off of.

DAMMIT THIS IS WHY WE DONT DO COMPOSITIONS

-------------

Posted By: Shakespeare
Date Posted: April 28 2008 at 21:07
Yeah, it uses real musical notation. It also has an alternative.

Posted By: Shakespeare
Date Posted: April 28 2008 at 21:09
Also, the bass on the song is, as it currently is, ridiculously hard. I doubt you'll be able to get it the way it is. I suggest just listening and figuring out something that reinforces the rhythm. There are some parts in it where I just sprinkled a flurry of notes madly. Also, I'm not sure if you'll like it. It's like prog-metal classical music lul. But whatever, we need at least one complex song if we want to be added to PA once we get signed. Everyone knows any band with at least 1 complex song gets added to PA.
