I purchased this game yesterday and have been playing it for quite a few hours since. Check it out here:
http://www.audio-surf.com/ - http://www.audio-surf.com/
It's available through Steam for a really small price, there's also a free demo.
In a nutshell the game analyzes any song that you choose (mp3, iTunes etc.) and creates a virtual race track based on it. It's difficult to describe, but if you have a half way decent PC you should really give it a try. It's amazing!
Here's a cool video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EsVyEnhxWY - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EsVyEnhxWY it shows how well the game detects speed changes in the music.

Oh man, I deleted Steam off my computer a while ago
Looks like a pretty cool game, but I don't like Blur

Kinda looks like a Guitar Hero screen, with a rocket ship trying to race around/ avoid /destroy the "notes" coming down the "fretboard". Seems fun, though.

*bump* again ... I now know for a fact that I'm not the only one here who is currently playing this game.
So ... let's post some interesting tracks ... and your user names, so that we can see each other's high scores for our favorite tracks (Audio-Surf has a "friend" system).

Theoretically this should even work for Half-Life 2 ... but I guess you at least need a Mac with an Intel CPU.

Woah, this sounds cool!!! I actually had an idea like this for years where you could virtually enter a world to your music, and this seems pretty close. I definitely need to check it out. *downloading demo now*

I'll have to give the Ozrics a try later.
Some of my favorite songs to play have been by Area, Eider Stellaire and Hidria Spacefolk.

The Mars Volta is usually very good with this. The most fun I've had recently was going Holland 1945 by Neutral Milk Hotel.

I'm going to pay for the game tonight, but unfortunately I ran out of demo songs.
When I do get it though, how do you add people as friends?

Taal is also really great. Any of the heavier tracks from Skymind are a treat.

Click "Popular Songs" ... on the tab "Friend Scores" there's a button "Add A Friend".
They should make that easier ... and maybe they will.
Incidentally: In one of the last updates they even added a last.fm plugin ... in the options you can enter your last.fm username, so the tracks you surf will be added to your last.fm playlist.

In case anyone's thinking of trying post-rock for some weird reason...don't!
The most fun I've had has got to be with Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" and all of the Charlie Parker that I own. Bebop makes for a particularly quirky kind of gameplay.

^ why no post rock? It can really be a great surf ... or post metal for that matter. Choose anything that has great dynamics (silent/loud, slow/fast etc) and you're in for a treat!
