Kayo Dot posted 3 videos on youtube of their new material. In case some of you haven't seen it, here they are:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPdrkW_GeZ8 - Right Hand is the One I Want

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqS6S6IPXEc - The Useless Ladder (excerpt)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qfs3_x0PUFo - Blue Lambency Downward (excerpt)

The new stuff is definitely more subtle and precise. Enjoy.

Here's some possible artwork I found. I think it may be it:

If there's an album in the works, have they set a release date or something yet? Thanks for the vids, I'll have a look.

Release date is May 5th, I believe.

Album is called "Blue Lambency Downward", with 7 tracks, and will be released by Hydrahead Records.

Tis good stuff. I think this one will be just as good as the others in my book.

Both Choirs of the Eye and Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue are pretty much equal and up in my top 5 albums currently. So this is a good thing.

They were supposed to release blue lambyncy downwards sometime in March, but seeing how tommorows April 1st, I dont think that will happen.

I agree. I think this album may be their best yet, oddly enough,. When I first heard about it, what with all the jazz and no ferociously cacophonous parts, I was kinda sad. After hearing the material, I am extremely excited.

This will be the CD of 2008, and I could see it being their best, at least based on the videos.  When will a preorder be available?

Posted By: lithopediology

I think the preorder will be available pretty soon! We're still trying to brainstorm a good preorder bonus item though! any ideas?

A set of Kayo Dot related stickers.  I got a set of stickers with the latest John Zorn release (the Dreamers) and I absolutely loved having them.  I can't give a logical reason, but stickers are always a good idea.

I'll see if I can come up with more.

As for preorder bonuses, got any live material sitting around ready to dump onto a DVD?

And stickers are nice too. :)

EDIT: And I'd like to add: Got any artwork to unveil???

That'd be cool.........

Actually, considering they are essentially live bootlegs shot on a handheld camera, they sound pretty damn good...

A poster would be sweet!

This is supposed to be KD's least meandering? What is Kayo Dot without meandering, is it even possible, or are you just say ing that even though there is significantly less meandering, theres still an assload of it?

Probably the latter. But the idea I get is that the music could come off as meandering still, but it seems much more structured and precise in my opinion. As if everything is completely put in its place (not that it wasn't before, but there was some minimal room for improv on the last few records). Everything seems less wayward and wandering though, and more, like I said, put in its place.

But I mean hey, I haven't heard the whole thing yet, so who am I to judge.

Although, I think another good indicator is the fact that there are more tracks with a similar total time (as far as I've heard) as the other albums. So the songs are shorter, it seems, which leaves less room for meandering.

Kayo Dot.... A group of very talented people, who love to tease me.

Am i an insensitive brute for my hope of another "The Manifold Curiosity"? Big%20smile

I feel that KD is progressively getting more "progressive", and less rock.

I feel Kayo Dot are continually keeping their music fresh and innovative. All three albums thus far already have distinct sounds and more prominent features than the other albums contained. They keep reinvigorating their formulas. And they are completely awesome. I cannot wait for this album. ......

Album of '08, I'm calling it already. I am in love with what I'm hearing so far. It's so Kayo Dot, and once again they make something drastically different from the last outing while becoming increasingly abstract at the same time.

This kind of avant-garde music is the future.

Indeed. I think it may be. Perhaps not though...

Either way, I think it's very nice. Although, because of the word "Blue" in the title, and all of the jazz presents, I was almost sure the artwork would be more, well...blue.

This artwork, whatever it may be for, is awesome though.

If you haven't heard, the new one (Blue Lambency Downward) features essentially NO metal...

Also, listen to the songs in the video........they give a good impression of the new album's likely lound.

Hahaha...Well.

I assure you, their sound is more subtle than ever, and the music is very exact and obviously orchestrated; yet it has a very distinctly jazzy, almost sinister feel to it all. I seriously think that, if this album delivers full-on the atmosphere the songs in the videos contains, we'll have ourselves a monumental winner....

Big%20smile  I'm not that much into metal, yet the last Kayo Dot album was a bit too mellow for me. I felt like they spent every song building up tension, but never released. It's as if they went out of their way to not play with each other simultaneously. I felt like i was being musically teased for the entire album. So, it's not that i don't dig the instrumentation they're using, but the some of the pieces on the last album felt a bit aimless and over stretched.

I disagree completely, but that's not why I'm responding. I'd just like to say that if what you just said summed up your view on the last album, I'm not so sure you'll enjoy this one...

Still, I hope for the best. And yes, DOWSING certainly wasn't as bombastic or climatic as CHOIRS, but it was still great :)

Should be an excellent release.  I hope you guys buy the album to support them, because recent interviews with Toby say that they have less than substantial monies.  But of course you buy all the albums you listen to!, hehe.

Dowsing Anemone has always been my favorite KD album, it just feels much more delicate and pleasing than their first album.  And the first album was also pretty great.  Their music obviously has a lot of atmosphere, last summer, I combined their song "Asylum on the Wall" with a BioShock video (BioShock is an amazing game, by the way, haha, with incredible atmosphere as well; the video's on youtube).  Yep.
