Hello, just a quick question involving the overall rating system on the site. I just posted a review for Oceansize's Everyone Into Position and the rating dropped from 4.01 to 3.96. Just a little bit confused that the average managed to drop so low based on one review not to mention that it dropped below what I gave it.  Just wondering if there was a reason for this, because I wasn't intending to drop the rating of the album so dramatically, if even at all. Thanks for any answers!  |

There's been a lot of discussion on this in the forum. If you try a search for "rating" or "ratings" changing the time period to "any date", you should find some of them.
Essentially, the calculation involves a complex algorithm which takes into account both the ratings given and the number of reviews for that album which have been posted.
My mathematical and statistical prowess is such that I'm afraid I can't offer an explanation for the specific example you quote.

Okie dokie, thanks!  It just seemed odd to me that a 4 star rating would drag something under 4. |
