do you sometimes get the feeling you're irrevocably becoming a frothing maniac? when I accidentally hear the news or spend too long thinking about, well, anything, I start to slip into an unbearable rage. If you do too, how do you prevent this? I'm having real difficulties retaining composure, living on this ridiculous planet...

fix me

Yeah, i'm carrying rage inside me all the time. I get rid of a of bit of it by smashing up the doors in school.

I can get mad at times, and i mean MAD! Like psychotic, violent, unstoppable rage which comes from loads of anger that unfortunately have stuck with me for years now. Mainly from things that annoys me greatly, or people that are just complete numbskulls in my opinion. I haven't got any better tip than: try to avoid those things that annoys you and try to think about other things. I know it's a clichèd answer, but it's one of the better solutions I can think of right now.

Try to enroll in a grappling or a boxing gym.
Work that anger out and in the process beat the sh*t out of someone.
It works, trust me.

First try heroin.

Failing that, try more heroin.

The world is one f-d up place.  As a generally happy pessimist I realize there are no answers, and the things that keep us going are largely rationalizations.  On the other hand, best not to think about it, and just plow ahead.  Music will always be there and it helps temper the rage.  I try to set aside feelings of desperation and enjoy  myself.  The party will be over soon enough anyway, what's the point of wasting time with rage. Death will cure rage.  LOL

A bit of sex is usually enough to make you feel better.

Thumbs%20Up

When that's not availible -- long prog-filled walks are the best cure for the insanity of the world, the world and life.

I'd agree, though... thinking too hard about any one thing will make your brain spin. Madness is inevitable...

I would agree with Ivan too, but there are times when sex is just not available, and I happen to be a stickler for quality in all thingsLOL...

Seriously, though, I hear you, Lappy.... I know that feeling, and sometimes think I'm also going mad. Unfortunately, besides the general state of the world, I have other reasons for being angry, and lately I feel more and more the way you described. However, I don't think it has anything to do with madness, but just with being very sensitive to what happens around us - at least this is how I see myself.

Make it a habit to enjoy small things you don't spend much time thinking about otherwise. Drink a lot of tea (very important), keep yourself drugged up with lots of good music, and everything will brighten up!

Another (and more simple) alternative is joining forces with the great modern guru

The Reverend Arthur Belling, Vicar of St. Looney-Up-The-Cream-Bun-And-Jam.

I totally know what you mean mate. I too get a bit irritated at times when I die in Super Mario. Then I stop playing.

To the drugs/sex/violence crowd: these are all methods of temporary relief. I can generate highs like everyone else, but they're just reprieves from the unbearable. What I'm worried about is the long-term effects of being furious at everything, so just finding ways to ignore how I really feel solves nothing. Perhaps other people are content to seem to function while secretly being berserk but that's certainly not how I want to be.

The idea I like most is going on long walks, but that's something I do anyway. Still it's a start - I think the key is to go on a walk and to not come back, since perhaps it's how I live right now that annoys me; I'm nominally content to sit around not really affecting anything. Throwing everything away would mean I'd be driven by necessity - that'd be a huge change...

(sorry for being emo.) ;P

Work out.

And think you just might die sooner rather than later, so it's not worth getting upset about ... pretty much anything.

Works for me.

Walks are a good start. Take some courses, do things outside... the busier you are, the less time you have to think about what's bugging you.

Then you actually gotta like....do stuff....can't have that.Tongue

I too find I get more upset at various things around me more often than I used to. Most of which relates to people and their being asses. Seriously, the more time I spend with large groups of "the masses" the worse I seem to get. And If I really start to think about things, it gets worse. However, anger usally turns into a depression for me, so my pissed off periods are usually shorter. How do I sublimate? Well...playing drums always helps. Really can bang the crap out of those babies. Hitting things in general helps too...but most things can break/hurt your hands (thought I almost broke my hand after hitting a table once). Depression is a harder creature for me to break however.

Even with the guff I gave the above keeping busy is good. At least, keep your mind busy. Write music/stories/etc, play chess, read...something to keep the forces at bay. The world is a terrible place, blocking it out is essential for happiness IMO. Can that really be done though? I don't think so. So distractions are just as essential. Enjoy the good you can find...perhaps the secret is to extract as much good you can at once and just ignore the rest. Doesn't sounds healthy to me either though.

At least youre not in denial. Wink
