for reasons too dorky to elaborate on here I'm compiling a list of four letter names. What have I missed?

(male)
Adam    Alan    Alex    Andy    Aziz    Bill    Brad    Chad    Dave    Dean    Emil    Enzo    Eric    Erik    Evan
Finn    Fred    Gary    Hans    Hugo    Igor    Ilja    Ivan    Jack    Jake    Jens    Joel    John    Jose    Juan
Lars    Leon    Liam    Luca    Luis    Luke    Nate    Neil    Nick    Noah    Noel    Olaf    Omar    Otto    Owen
Paul    Pete    Phil    Rhys    Ross    Ryan    Sean    Stan    Theo    Todd    Tony    Vlad    Yuri    Zack
+Bart    Burt    Carl    Dirk    Doug    Earl    Esau    Ezra    Greg    Hugh    Iain    Jeff
Joey    Mark    Mike    Mick   Rick    Sven   Toby   Will

(female)
Alba    Andi    Anna    Anne    Cass    Cloe    Dana    Dora    Elen    Ella    Emma    Erin    Faye    Gaia    Gina
Gwen    Hina    Hope    Ilsa    Inge    Jade    Jane    Jess    Jill    Joan    June    Kate    Kaye    Lara    Leah
Lena    Lily    Lisa    Lucy    Lulu    Luna    Mary    Miyu    Nina    Nora    Olga    Rita    Roni    Rose    Ruby
Sara    Suzi    Tara    Tess    Tina    Toni    Yael    Zoey
+Dawn    Edna    Elim    Enid    Jean   Judy    Kaya    Lana    Lois    Lori   Mona   Ruth

(surnames - I need lots more of these)
Bell    Berg    Chan    Chen    Choi    Cook    Cruz    Dias    Eder    Fuji    Gray    Haas    Hall    Hill    Jung
Katz    Kerr    Khan    King    Koch    Lane    Lang    Levy    Lima    Long    Mori    Pace    Park    Reed    Ross
Roux    Ruiz    Ryan    Sato    Smit    Song    Wang    Ward    Wolf    Wong    Wood    Zhao
+Barr    Boyd    Bush    Cole    Kant    Legg    Lowe    Rice   Rowe

a few pointers:
if a name would be rendered unreadable by having its diacriticals removed (ex. Joćo) then I don't need it - I'm using alphabet characters only
if you have two very similar ones (ex. Olaf, Olav) then submit the one you think is most common
don't submit anything unnecessarily rare - I'm trying to strike a balance between recognisability and exhaustiveness.

the ones after the "+" are ones added since I posted this

any suggestions?

Elim is generally considered a female name.  Egyptian if I'm not mistaken.  The rest are male.

Thanks, yes, I did spot that list. The reason I started this thread instead of just cribbing directly from it was to get an international opinion on which of the names were expected and actually in use. =)

Interesting.  Well, best of luck to you.

BTW, Kaya is another one I've seen several little girls in the U.S. named.

How about Shel (as in Shel Silverstein)?  One of my kids was reading "The Giving Tree" today and that one occured to me.

Good book by the way.  It'll make you phone your mother to see how she's doing...

As is common, since I have two young kids, I was distracted when writing it, posted hurriedly as I was being called away, and wasn't nearly happy with the quality of the post.  Rather than edit later, I decided to delete instead, as I didn't know when I could get back to it.  Also, I thought my very little joke poorly puerile, and a lame attempt at referencing (god knows that even what I make what I consider to be somewhat decent attempts at humour, I elicit groans, or embarrassed silence, so I'm a little self-conscious there when there is anything in a post of mine that resembles an attempt at humour.  I wish one could order something akin to Viagra for a limp funny bone).

I plan to use these for a few word games I'm designing to help myself become better at programming...

I can use a lot of what you submitted, although a few (nial, dunc, peta) seem like modified versions of better-known names - are they regional?

http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Nial.html - Nial is an original Irish/Gaelic name and is not a derivative of Neil
Dunc is the diminutive for http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Duncan.html - Duncan
http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Peta.html - Peta is of Greek origin and is the female form of Peter

Does Josh count? It's short for Joshua...
And then there's Nils, like SGM.
But technically, couldn't a parent name their child anything they wanted? Therefore, Here or Face or Book would be names, too.
