Look frenchie i'm not here to take on no one,especially Reed.Reed & i have faced our differences in good humour & are respected friends now on here. What the hell would i wanna listern to that crap for uh,??Well i did actually for two milli seconds that was enough. I'm sorry but the long straigh black hair & logo styling is very gothic looking to me. How the hell can you take the piss out of lyrics in comparison to that sh*t? Wake up.. The no nonesence lyrics were part of the prog ideal in those days,far more clever than any lyric now.They may seem very childlike to you be they very cleverely convey what the artist wanted to convey.This obviously tells me you have no intrest in this music at all.

i was thinking of listening with an open mind, reviewing the album, meeting you halfway. you know i feel like have given you a hard time tonight, its not beed a good day for me, so i will start being friendlier and i am gonna put on ELP's debut and give it another try once i have finished listening to Yanqui UXO, got any problems with them? If i had discrimated bands for the way they look then i wouldnt be listening to ELP, i mean look at them! the first LP they had with photos of them on the cover was Love Beach right? and i wouldnt have let a band like that anywhere near my cd collection if i judged by looks, i mean MY GOD! ------------- The Worthless Recluse

If i see any inclination of someone digging at ELP there gonna get it,you did it early on saying that the King crimson Lyrics were better than anything ELP could have wrote,then you pull the KC lyrics down saying they were childlike.So is that not enough to piss me off then? That's it you put ELP's debut on.The debut that people pull down over the later albums thats great.I don't discriminate any band because of how it looks.For instance i love the band ramases.He & selket his wife used to live life dressed as Ramases would have done thousands have years ago..So!..I just hate modern bands pawned off as prog,it's not & never will be.It's an imbaressment to the music & fuels the anti-prog reviewrs.I would'nt give it the time of day. 'Love beech' Uh! great one there last studio album before split & 1978 virtually the end of prog as we knew it.So your going for the first & last albums there very good.Do me a favour save the review ok!

Well i will listen and review ELP, and i hope you read it! So much for trying to be nice to you. btw, that whole lyrics thing was a JOKE, have a heart, i dont particularly think either lyrics are better or worse, its all opinion man, some ppl prolly do prefer cat food to elp, i mean i am perfect but are you! i guess it takes guts to make such a claim, or maybe ELP were eating too much cat food at the time! I wanna be your friend man, feel free to bash The Mars Volta and stuff as much as you want, even if i turned into an ELP fan i wud still bash em cos i just dont care, and i like a challenge and some humour! Yes i am loverly when someone winds me the wrong way! I won't give modern prog a chance cos i've heard all i can take.& i'm afraid i'm not missing out on anything at all.You cannot be nice to me Frenchie when you've just blasted ELP & King crimson at the same time.Joking or not it's personal ok! I don't go bashing any particular band at one time the whole new race of so called prog is really bad.The original early prog is absolutly everything to me,the style,lyrics,the raw production,limited instruments of the time,bizzare lyrics etc all fantastic,time & fashion completely destroyed this all,you could hear it through the years the aweful progression of styles which is ironic but i know...The musicians actually destroyed themselves following the fashion,be it keeping up with trends such as the punk revolution or record companies sticking the foot dowN,either way it was done & so was prog.These new artists have absolutly no idea,they can't & never will.

old prog and new prog but old prog even more so is EVERYTHING to me, not just prog actually, i love both old and new. Please read my review of ELP, i gave it 4 stars, i would really love it if you read it. Also KC are one of my fave bands! I didnt even think i WAS bashing them  ------------- The Worthless Recluse

Opeth is great. I, like K9, used to think that music was dead after the 70s. Do you actually know what's going off there?First portable synthesizer!'MINI MOOG' of which not many people had heard off,a fantastic show piece that was taken on by virtually every prog band to follow.To hear a 'MINI MOOG' solo on a rock records was truly fantastic especially in the fasion keith did it making use of the powerful Oscolators/filters the synth had on offer.Even though the big 'Moog modular system he used prior to this was technically superior but you just could'nt get the sound & easy accesability the potable had.So it's not a bloody ambulance it's an electronic display of the artist & his new machine.

Sorry aqualung,there's nothing there that turns me on.This is very personal to me which others may feel the same with.Set aside the bizzare lyrics & originality of early stuff.It's the atmosphere that does it for me.This is completely dead from the out set though if you listern to CD.The raw production reproduction & warmth given by vinyl playback terms is the key to the sound & body,it is imperative you have the highest quality audio system though to fully appreciate this.The newer material, even though very poor in contend will never have the feeling of the old recording,well their digitally mastered & most probably recordeed that way for a start,you see most bands rely too much on technology weither it be recording techniques,the way they write or the influences already set into their brains.Never ever will a new band create all the old bands & techniques created back then.

OK, so Frenchie's description of an ambulance was maybe a little off centre - however, this does not detract from his basic critique, i.e. it's not a very good solo. Sorry, KE9, I happen to love the track (as I do most of ELP from this period), but even I can appreciate the fact that KE's Moog solo seems tacked on the end at the last minute, goes on too long, meanders without purpose, and leads the song itself to a messy conclusion - frankly sounding as if Lake, then Palmer get bored, and wander off. Just because you're the first to do something, doesn't automatically mean you're the best at it. Just don't get me started on Hendrix... -------------

Well listening to it now even for the first time, after having experienced years of synths, does not compare to being able to listen to it the first time, when you'd never heard a synth before. I thought the ending to Lucky Man when I first heard it, was the coolest thing I'd ever heard. It sounded like a perfect ending to me for someone who had just died so violently... and I really love the three drum beats at the end.... BTW... that was a first run for Keith, never played the thing before. He wanted to do it over a second time, but Greg said no, he liked it the way it was. I can imagine that if Keith had been given a second go... that solo would of been about 5 times longer than the original.. so I think its perfect just the way it is also. (And I've heard Keith's longer version of it) ------------- THIS IS ELP

'Lucky Man' is a fine song, but I have to agree with Jim about the Moog solo. threefates describes it in a way that seems to justify it to her. But, my ears dont like it. It sounds completely innapropriate after such a moving song. It sounds like Keith Emerson just showing off his new Moog toy, and not being patient enough to wait until they wrote a song where it did work properly. ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

i am only 17, warped by the sounds of the MTV generation, i may not get the same out of it that you did back in the day but how can i? At least i listen to stuff from the 70s, most people i know just blow it off with the thought that "if it was made before i was born then it cant be good", people i know treat old music as handicaped. Also K9, have you tried buying modern prog albums on vinyl??? and what about anglagard, they only use recording equipment and instruments that were available before 1974 or something, and they released their albums on vinyl. ------------- The Worthless Recluse
