Inspired by Fighting Sleep's thread "Best of Prog ", here's my tracklist for The Best Krautrock Album In the World... Ever!

What do you think should be on it? My definition of Krautrock includes some stuff that's classed as Progressive Electronic, as that’s where bands like Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra headed later in their careers.

Disc 1
Faust - Krautrock (11:47)
Neu! - Hallogallo (10:07)
Can - Vitamin C (3:34)
Tangerine Dream - Ultima Thule Part 1 (3:25)
Amon Düül II - Phallus Dei (20:45)
Guru Guru - Der LSD-Marsch (8:28)
Ash Ra Tempel - Amboss (19:40)

Disc 2
The Cosmic Jokers - Cosmic Joy (19:24)
Amon Düül II - Archangel's Thunderbird (6:37)
Faust - It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl (7:27)
Popol Vuh - Vuh (19:48)
Amon Düül - Mama Düül und Ihre Sauerkrautband Spielt Auf (2:50)
Tangerine Dream - Birth of Liquid Plejades (20:00)

Disc 3
Kraftwerk - Ruckzuck (7:47)
Can - Mother Sky (14:30)
Tangerine Dream – Sunrise in the Third System (4:20)
Popol Vuh - Der Große Krieger (3:12)
Ash Ra Tempel - Suche & Liebe (19:23)
Harmonia - Sehr Kosmisch (10:50)
Conrad Schnitzler - Krautrock (20:10)

We don't need to assemble the greatest Kraut album of all time--Can already did.  It's called Tago Mago.

For the most part, I like my Krautrock to be as though it's normal rock that's turned completely inside-out, spat on, beaten within inches of its life with a 2 by 4, and then revived by some sort of German voodoo. A nice maraschino cherry on top doesnt hurt.

Anyways, my favorite Kraut band is Amon Düül II, and anything between and including Phallus Dei to Wolf City is pretty much perfect. But Can is amazing and NEU! has produced some of the finest music I have yet to hear, so it's difficult for me to choose specific tracks from any artist.

So I guess my list would probably end up looking something like yours.

That's the best definition of Krautrock I've ever heard! LOL
