^ Clap I started with the Mantle... and loved it.... one of the few PM groups... Mastodon being the other that grabbed me from the first listen.

The Mantle is one of the finest crafted prog metal albums.

I really ...really liked it.  Once I do finish my Battiato reviews.. 2 more I want to review. To complete his 70's albums... I'd like to give my two cents ...having been so loud about what I don't like... and review some stuff from PM that I do like.

I was a bit different and first heard Ashes Against the Grain last year as the first album I had heard by them (their newest album), and then got a hold of The Mantle and Pale Folklore, and I love all three of the albums. If your after a more Post-Metal approach to their music, I recommend Ashes first off, but if that doesn't worry you, go for Pale first, then Mantle then Ashes to see the evolution of their soundSmile.

I started with The Mantle, which I liked right away. Though I think from the responses in this thread you really can't go wrong with where you start.

Great band, agree with the mantle. id steer clear of their first release it still hasnt grown that big on me. Ashes Against... is great too tho more of a post-y kind of sound, more metallic whereas the Mantle was acoustic driven and folksy.

funny enough...I always used to ignore this band by no reason...they were too obscured for me, and I simply forgot about them. This thread (why not in Recommendation lounge?) has awaken my interest, and here I'm listening to "Ashes against the Grain" CD borrowed from a friend (he's a die-hard metalhead)...listening and going insane. THIS IS AWESOME!!!

After more than a year Ashes Against the Grain still stands proud, it's even getting better, I'm getting used to the growling and I even START TO LIKE IT (I would not imagine I'd EVER say that of ANY growling...but here I think it's good!). Certainly one of the greatest albums of 2006! Not Unlike The Waves and Bloodbirds are out-of-this world!

For me, at first Ashes Against the Grain was nothing remarkable at all. It took me over 2 months to 'get it', but now that I have, it's amazingSmile.
