| Hey buddies, I plan on buying the BOSS GT-8 some time soon, and I would like to get some suggestions for the amp. I have a Line 6 Spider III 30watt amp and I'll be selling that some since I'm moving, plus I'm not very satisfied with the overall output of it. So the GT-8 will be my primary source for sound modulation. What amp should I put this through. I'm not looking for anything over 65 watts. Thanks a bunch |

Before you pull out the wallet and go forth for the GT-8, I'm not sure if you followed the NAMM show last month, but Boss unveiled the GT-10, which should hardly cost anymore (given that the GT-6 cos the same as the GT-8 when that was released, it will either be the same price as a GT-8, or just a little bit more, perhaps in the region of 50-100 dollars). The GT-8 does sound pretty good, but I couldn't help but think it was sometimes too digital and a little un-natural sounding. The GT-10 has an improved DSP engine (better tone in the Amp and Effects Models) a more user friendly interface, plus USB connectivity, making it a more flexible device. It should be available fairly soon, given it was unveiled on the 17th of January. As for amps, I haven't tried out too many amps (and the range of amps on offer is far less in Australia than what is available in the UK or US), but if your looking for something under or at the most 65 watts and don't want a Line 6 again, the Roland Cube 60, has a very good clean channel, plus if you don't always want to use the Boss multi effects, it has some great built in Amp models on the second channel. it's also a little louder than you would expect from a 60 watt amp. Another option is the Fender FM65 DSP, which has a good clean channel as well, and it's 65 watts. This is just at the cheaper solid state end of things, not sure of your budget, but if money allows, look for a good tube amp in the 50 to 60 watt range with a good clean channel with plenty of headroom (more headroom in the clean channel will allow the Boss unit to sound more realistic, with greater clarity). -------------

I, speaking of the GT-10, just discovered it this afternoon. Just happened to go straight to the BOSS website and all of a sudden I get this explosive presentation of it. So I ended up watching how the whole thing works and was very impressed with it. I was also looking for a release date for the new product and couldn't find it. As for the amp suggestions, thank you very much. I'll definitely look into those two you have suggested. I'll save the tube amps for later. Thanks again. |

What's wrong with the Spider? Even if you don't like the amp simulations for some reason it should still be perfect in connection with the GT-8.

Honestly, I have not had the opportunity to try any of your suggestions. Work is very hectic now and when I get off for the day I'm too drained to do anything. I very much appreciate them though. All I can really do is find video demonstrations of the gear. I'm hoping for possibly this weekend. I'll throw some more replies if I get the chance to try any of them out. |

And another suggestion, is the Zoom G9.2tt multi effect pedal, sounds amazing, even better than a GT-8 IMO (although not sure if the GT-10 sounds as good or better yet). Give it a try, it's cheaper than the Boss as well -------------

It does have a nice sound to it, but the problem is that it seems to preset itself to specific settings whenever I turn it on, than I'll have to readjust it. I'm not too fond of the built-in effects and it's starting to annoy me every time I turn it on.
