Hot on the heels of the announcement about KCs potential foray into the 5.1 surround market, news has reached me that Alex Lifeson is keen to remix Rush's seminal Prog-Metal opus 2112 in 5.1.

This was mentioned by Terry Brown, one-time Rush producer in an interview with Ed Stenger of Rushisaband website:

RIAB: My all-time favorite Rush album (favorite album period!) is 2112. I've heard you mention in http://www.musicstreetjournal.com/terrybrowninterview.htm - other interviews that you'd like to do 2112 in 5.1. I believe Alex Lifeson had stated something similar in an interview last year. What are the chances of this happening?

TB: Very minimal I would say! For two reasons: Alex is pretty keen on mixing 2112 himself and secondly I don't feel 5.1 works without pictures. Although I love Dark Side of the Moon and Yellow Brick Road - to name but two that withstand repeated listens in 5.1. It's really all about melody and production and 5.1 is not going to change that significantly.

Perhaps an idea would be to use the folk who do the back projections for Rush to come up with some great anims with live footage included within.

Perhaps 2112 itself could have the story in anim/live action, and Side 2 (as I call it) could have mini newly produced promos.

^ That would be amazing (potentially, of course).

What?  Steven Wilson isn't remixing it?

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
