Cheval De Frise were created in 1998 in Bordeaux, France to be a duo of Vincent Beysselance (drums) and Thomas Bonvalet (electro-acoustic guitar) playing instrumental quirky, avant/math-rock with guitar and drums. They released 3 albums, all of them highly recommended for fans of avant/post/math-rock and of the bands such as Hella, (acoustic, minimized) Don Caballero and Ruins.
The music, as was written in reviews of their music their releases remind of “Gastr Del Sol, Don Caballero and Ruins directions, intersections, juxtapositions, superpostions”. It does bear some characteristics of post-rock but with an energetic boost and a generous amount of quirkiness and oddness.

Very interesting sound. I agree with the math rock mixed with avantish zeul style. (it kinda reminds me of something i've heard from Bondage Fruit with an extra helping Don Caballero :) )

Thanks for the recommend sir. As much as i respect these guys they may actually be a bit too avant for me. I'm gonna have to keep listening to that Myspace sample to try and obtain some kind of understanding.

Hi Dominic,

Once you get their "shtick", you'll see they're not that avant-guard. There is always a leading thread in their music, a good sense of composition and structure, you just need to "unlock" the lock to listening to them.

If you want to listen to more of their material to get a better idea, let me know.

A great band. I'm still trying to grasp their sound, but I'm quickly enjoying their debut since I've been listening to it for quite some time now.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.
