Tangerine Dream has provided music for literally dozens of films, including Sorcerer, Risky Business, The Keep, Mean Streets...
William Friedkin said he would have used Tangerine Dream's music for The Exorcist but he only heard their music after the film was completed (using Tubular Bells).
Crystal Voyager is a surfing movie which features the whole of Pink Floyd's Echoes as the background music for beautiful scenes of the sea (I found the rest of the film instantly forgettable).
And I heard about this film called The Wall which uses one or two Floyd songs.

When it comes to Sigur Ros: their music is used to great effect (sublime, even) in Wes Anderson's THE LIFE AQUATIC.
(Almost as good as those slow motion scenes in THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS which feature Nico songs!)

not a soundtrack component per sé but i just have to mention the scene in
“school of rock“ (starring jack black) where he hands out CDs to the kids that
he has brought into the band, like “fragile“ (YES) to the keyboard player (“listen
to the solo in “roundabout“, maaan...) and rush's 2112 to the drummer.
i suppose “lost highway“ (david lynch), featuring two tracks by RAMMSTEIN,
doesn't count, does it?

I haven't watched the film in years, but if it features a female singer then it may be Julee Cruise, if it were a male then it might be The Thought Gang... As far as I know all music and lyrics were written by David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti.

I believe the song you're referring to is called the Pink Room. (you are talking about the song with the bowed bass, heavy guitars, and a hard driving drum beat?) If so it's only a little over four minutes on the soundtrack, maybe it just seemed that long. I'll have to check my soundtrack CD when I get home, but I think it's not a real band but a Lynch/Badalamenti concoction.

You are probably right - Though Gang was a Lynch/Badalamenti made-up band, but I thought the bar scene had Julee Cruise standing on stage singing, isn't the Pink Room a different scene?

the movie is definitely worth watching too. it features the top of the crop of German actors, and I have to say that Guru Guru, especially Mani Neumeier, hold up their own against them. of course they more or less only had top play themselves, but Neumeier has a few scenes where he goes beyond that

that music is so effectively haunting and chilling. I bought the soundtrack CD for just that song, also thinking it was possibly some psychedelic backwoods punk group. The way Lynch turns the volume up on that music and depresses the dialog, and gives us "subtitles" is very effective. Very surreal atmosphere.

We must not forget the great movie American Psycho, which not only features the lead character playing a little Genesis on his stereo, along with Phil Collins while two prostitutes are getting it on, but a classic dialog on how he didn't like the proggy Genesis of the 70s, but likes their more pop direction in the 80s, especially "In Too Deep". group dedicated to the late/electric music of Miles Davis that he co-leads
with
trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith; a double disc compilation of his guitar
improvisations with Fred Frith, called Friends & Enemies; a CD of his
solo
improvisations, called *Lemon Fish Tweezers*, and a various artists
compilation
of acoustic guitar music called *156 Strings*, which he both curated and
appears on. In addition to his work on Cuneiform, Kaiser has released
numerous
recordings on other labels, including Shanachie. Most notably,
Kaiser and
Lindley released 3 CDs in the A WORLD OUT OF TIME series of
Malagasy
collaborations on
Shanachie, which was nominated for a Grammy. Very recently, Kaiser
released a
recording of shakuhachi-guitar duets with Kiku Day: ZEN KAIJU. Imagine
that
Hiroshi Teshigahara directed GOJIRA (GODZILLA), instead of Inoshiro Honda,
with
a soundtrack by Toru Takemitsu, to get an idea of the nature of the
unusual ZEN
KAIJU project....
But Kaiser is not only a musician whose music is internationally
acclaimed - he is also a professional underwater videographer AND a movie
producer and filmmaker. Besides supplying the music with Lindley for
Herzog's Encounters, he also produced the movie and did all of the
underwater
photography; as well as appearing as a character on camera.
Whether it be experimenting with guitar riffs from outer space or
experimenting with science, deep beneath the ice of Antarctica's Ross Sea,
Henry Kaiser is no stranger to pushing the limits. Now, Kaiser is at it
again
with his new project. *Encounters at the End of the World.* Henry Kaiser
again
takes on a new challenge by not only producing the film and composing the
music
for the film's soundtrack, but also by taking on the role of cameraman
down in
the frigid climate of mysterious Antarctica.
For decades Henry Kaiser has been known as a world renowned avant-garde
musician. He has been widely recognized as one of the most creative guitar
players and improvisers. His music has been described as unique, exciting,
and
adventurous. Before his recording career began, Kaiser was a professional
film
and TV director. Recently Kaiser had several projects where he has made
great
strides working with Werner Herzog. Kaiser and Herzog explored life with a
pack
of grizzly bears and then dove down deep into the sea.
Now, working on their fourth collaboration, Kaiser and Herzog decided to
invade
the secret sides of Antarctica and uncover some of the polar mysteries,
human
and inhuman, of one of Earth's last unexplored territories. *Encounters*
has
already earned rave reviews at the Telluride Film Festival and it opens to
the
public this summer.

Peter Gabriel has simply outshined them all with the likes of "Rabbit Proof Fence," "Birdy," "The Last Temptation of Christ" and many others, but MIchael Kamen was amazing and you must check out Tangerine Dream with "Thief."

Funny, I was just watching an episode of Party of Five and at one point Bailey is pulling tabs off roommate advertisements. One of the ads said "must be a fan of Jethro Tull.: Bailey then said "Well I know all the words to Aqualung.

I remember there was a video link in this site... |
They played the start of Mogwai's "Take Me Somewhere Nice" at the end of an episode once, as well as the beginning of a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan song.
