Once there was a topic about "desktop speakers". I just bought a pair of Audioengine 2, some tiny american powered micro speakers, which mean that an amplifier is located in one of the two speakers, as well as the inputs at the back.
It seem to be the best "desktop" speakers but i'd rather use it as a basic travel micro system. So, you just have to plug it on a wall socket and feed it with a (rather portable) source.
I use it with my Sony WM-D6 reference portable professional cassette deck or a Sangean micro tuner (analog rules!), but it's originally designed for Ipods.
I upgraded the very ordinary speaker cable provided by a piece of QED silver anniversary, perfect for that use, and linked my WM-D6 to the Audioengine using a QED J2P. I also used a (bipolar type)Eupen power cable to feed the whole, but a QED would do well.
I'd not call that real hifi speakers, there are quite limited, but the performance is amazing for the size, including le tour de force to put a micro amp in such tiny speaker!
The musicality is there, the highs are very fine (thanks to the silk tweeters) and the low does what it can with such tiny (kevlar)boomer.
Impressive and recommended!
Morever, there are great looking as you can see (i choosed black)!
