Why are you making all these DT polls?

I guess I'm to blame for this one ... Wink

No vote from me, as I think that they're both. LOL

Metal first, Prog elements second - but, of course, that's taking "Prog" to mean old school, rather than modern. To be honest, I'm not sure what modern Prog is really about.

Well, I think you'd have to split it into different phases in their carreers: certain albums contain a lot more prog and less metal (Images & Words, Awake), while others are clearly more metal than prog (Train of Thought, Systematic Chaos).

I think it depends on the song to refer, its really difficult to clasify directly the whole band and albums.

If i have to choose one of them, i take prog with metal elements, but it cant be an absolute style

Metal with prog elements because DT seems to be almost every metal head's favorite prog band but not really every prog head's favorite metal band! Smile

Taking Prog in it's actual meaning (short for progressive rock), DT can't really be considered "prog". They certainly show an influence from Progressive rock, however, so I'll go with the last option.

If Mike Portnoy is seen with a King Crimson "In The Court...." t - shirt, then it's prog with metal elements...LOL

I would say, about 40 percent prog, 60 percent metal, averaging out all their studio albums.
