Wow I love the topic idea.

The problem is that those songs are all in pretty much the same key, not as common with prog. Anyway, I'll just take a stab in the dark and see something interesting. Of course, it would be of the more popular prog songs.

Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Jethro Tull - Cross Eyed Mary
Yes - Roundabout
<jazzy breakdown>
Gentle Giant - Knots
Dream Theater - Octavarium (trapped inside this...part)
Porcupine Tree - Blackest Eyes
<short accordion interlude>
Rush - 2112 (temples of syrinx)
Sigur Ros - Gong
Marillion - He Knows You Know
Frank Zappa - Camarillo Brillo
Radiohead - Paranoid Android (from riff before "rain down" to end)

^Add a sigur ros part after the Rush, and you're spot on!

He might have already used Radiohead in his alternative polka. Otherwise, those are great choices, I can picture them working well. Too lazy to come up with my own list. Sigur Ros, lawl.

Great idea. The whole thing sounds really cool in my head.

Close to the Edge the i get up/down part- Yes
He Knows You Know - Marillion
Pigs- Pink Floyd
Cogs in Cogs - Gentle Giant
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Killers - Van Der Graaf
Closing Section of the Musical Box - Genesis

I'm too lazy to make my own full list as well, but somewhere in that polka, he should include Supertramp's "Bloody Well Right", and I'd like to see what Weird Al could do to "Willow Farm" from "Supper's Ready"!

Alternatively, I could also imagine him taking his own material and "making it prog".
"Albuquerque" could become the next "Prog Epic" with some retooling!

^^ Weird Al has done alot of Polkas with lyrics from different songs in them. That's why this idea was brought up.

This is one of the funniest topics i've seen in a while. I'm surprised I've never asked myself that question before.
I think I'd like to hear:
21st Century Schizoid Man, i think the mirrors section would sound great on accordion

I think I'd also like to hear the accordion play the organ solo in Close to the Edge, as well as some of Emerson's work, maybe one of the already silly sounding ones such as Jeremy Bender.
also VdGG's Sleepwalkers.

I'd like to hear Weird Al do a really proggy Genesis song....  Something along the lines of Watcher of the Pies.

I would like to hear him do a Prog-style parody song such as "Supper's Ready" by Genesis or "In Held 'Twas In I" by Procol Harum. I can see that since for "In Held 'Twas In I" more since one part is 'Teatime at the circus' and 'Autumn of my Madness' has crazy sounds.

I could totally see him trying this. I think an interesting addition would be the third verse of Going For the One. "Now the verses I've sang don't add much weight to the story in my head so I think I should go and write a punchline." Sing it at double speed and it's sound comical. Jon Anderson's already kind of making fun of himself at this part anyway.
