http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=3157 - TIME OF ORCHIDS will be performing tomorrow at The Stone in NYC at 22:00 ( http://thestonenyc.com/ - http://thestonenyc.com/ ) which is a place for experimental music whose artistic director is John Zorn.

Saturdays are days in which the band that is playing that night plays an entire album in its whole.
Tomorrow ToO will be playing their latest album Namesake Caution in its entirety.

Anyone going to this show? My wife and I will be going with two of her friends (or victims...).
I hope to get my copy of the album signed and to have a short chat with the guys in the band, maybe have some interesting things to post in PA and also get their previous albums.
I'll also try and give a review of the show after it.

For those who can't make it tomorrow, there's another show next month in NYC.
ToO will also be performing next month as well at The Annex in NYC Dec 29.

Anyone from PA going as well?
Let me know and we can meet up, have a drink and eat, chat and see the show together (I'm afraid my wife's two friends we're coming with will be a bit overwhelmed fromToO, though one of them does like post-rock bands and was in the Battles show last week in NYC so he might like them...).

Much to my chagrin of posting/telling you this Avestin (as I know you're a fan of this type of music, and hell, so am I!)...Time Of Orchids are probably the worst band I've ever seen live...and for me, who can see/appreciate the good in most bands this is an unprecedented statement saying much...I found absolutely nothing redeeming seeing these guys "play".  In my ears, everything that they presented to me as music was a direct antithesis of such....and this isn't coming from someone who's unfamiliar with the territory that other bands and Time Of Orchids get lumped into.

To me, it looked and sounded like a band who had no clue what they were doing, how to make anything sound remotely consonant/melodic/rhythmic or flat out musical, and almost arrogantly passed it off under the guise of "being weird"...kind of that blurred ratiocination of "are they just being weird and can't play?" to "sure they're weird but they can also play and sound good and CONCRETE at being dissonant/topsy-turvy/whatever"!  They fell into the former...and I felt gave the latter bands a bad bad name.

I opened up a can of worms over at progressiveears when I stated similar sentiments...but hopefully I don't have to defend myself (bah, just did above, couldn't help it) in saying that I just think they're god awful, and really just not for me...let's just say, cheers if you like them!  And if you HAVEN'T seen them before, let me know what you thought!  Enjoy the night out either way!

So, is it that you don't like them at all or don't like them live?
Cause I have their latest album and after repeated listening managed to get a "grip" of it and understand how its structured so to speak and even like it.

Ah, ok fair enough then.
I understand well your point of view and this is actually why I think the two people who are coming with us are not likely to like it....
Anyway, I like their latest album and it is what they will play tonight.
I usually despise live shows (in general) and so I hope it will be ok....
