You left out three of the very best and legendary:

Psychotic Waltz, Watchtower and - my favourite -

Fates Warning!

Unbelievable!

So I had to give my vote to ... tadaa ... Voivod.

They should smear you with fudge and roll you in peanuts!

As for the poll: it's been done! And where are Cynic and Gordian Knot? So Dream Theater it is!

Opeth.

Out of these - Nightwish.

Condition Red and Opeth are both brilliant, Opeth especially is so danged surprising! I heard "Damnation" a while back, and I swear, I NEVER would've believed it was them unless I saw the cover and booklet, it was cool they got to explore their Symphonic /Folky side.

Tool I like a fair amount of  but unfortunately it starts to blur together as they tend to use the same key for a lot of their songs. Those guys need to change it up a bit.

Sorry people, but Uriah Heep is the leader of this pack. They created the genre for a start!

I beg to disagree - they are prog metal/operatic metal and are listed on this site as prog metal!!!

I have also seen them listed as Power metal. Nightwish Rule!!!

BTW I don't see Within Temptation, After Forever, The Gathering or Lacuna Coil listed in these archives BUT Stratovarious, Therion and Rhapsody are.

Are these groups not progressive metal????

Shame there's no Shadow Gallery, Fates or Threshold in the starting line-up...I've gone for DT overall purely for their complete catalogue, though its a close run thing....

I wonder why Opeth is left off these polls so often, as they are clearly the best progmetal band.
