Flower Kings drummer Zoltan Csörsz will join King Crimson for their upcoming (1-2 years away) album(s)/tour(s).  The news can be found in http://www.dprp.net/specials/2007_stolt/ - this interview  with Roine Stolt.  From the interview:

MARTIEN: Zoltan, the “old” drummer” has returned, why?

ROINE: Why not? Ha ha…. I think that if I will tell the whole story this will be too complicated for the fans, so I will give you the short version. Let’s say that Marcus who played on Paradox Hotel could not commit to this new recording as he had other things to do…. We had already booked the studio so we said, let’s try and ask Zoltan and he said without further ado, I will do it. However during the upcoming tour we will have another drummer as Zoltan has commitments with King Crimson, so there you go.

This means that Zoltan will join Pat Mastellotto, Robert Fripp, Adrien Belew, and Tony Levin to form the new incarnation of King Crimson.

I thought I read somewhere that Pat M. would be joining The Flower Kings. So basically they are exchanging drummers? Confused

No.  Pat will still be in King Crimson.

Yes, Pat sat in with the band for a while.  But now both of them will be performing in King Crimson.

Too bad for TFK.. they lost not one, not two, but three great drummers just since the last studio album! ....

I say bring in Manu Katché to The Flower Kings. The man would be killer to that band.

Inside Out says that Pat will be joining The Flower Kings on this tour.

Holy hell.  I've been dreaming of Zoltan with King Crimson for -years-.

I don't care what I have to sacrifice, I WILL be seeing this lineup.  Even if I have to donate my heart to John Wetton after his triple bypass!

Perhaps this exchange of drummers will result in a tour together?

They could encore with all nine of them together for an overblown rendition of Red.Nuke

Does Zoltan by any chance have a hidden talent for singing or writing lyrics?

Uhm, unless there's confirmation soon...I feel like Roine, was just being Roine and making a tongue-in-cheek joke...and it totally got taken literally...but time will tell.

I wouldn't mind hearing Zoltan in Crimson; although, I'm not too sure how much the double drummer thing will benefit them again...

Roine also said:

"It was a joke or he got it wrong .
I never said Zoltan would join KC .

Roine . "  :)

re: Flower King Drummer in KC

Roine cleared this up on FTK Yahoo Group:

Quoting Roine responding to the DPRP interview’s quote:

"Just to make shure we’re on the same page .

Pat Mastelotto will guest TFK on the nov  tour .
Pat Mastelotto is still in King Crimson.

I have not heard and think not that KC will need another or new drummer .

That said we’re of course happy if Pat will find time outside his Crimson commitments  to do other TFK gig next year
but nothing signed .

And  the Zoltan / KC thing  must be en error .

That's settled, end of thread.

Well, Pat had previously confirmed a second percussionist in King Crimson:

Music Street Journal: What's going on with King Crimson these days?

Pat Mastelotto: Robert has made the call to start up again and, while nothing is fixed we are planning to begin rehearsals next year - a few weeks at a time and lead up to some residence gigs, no long tours, and at this point Robert doesn't want to play outside the USA. We will be a 5 piece and i think you know 4 of us. In fact I'm sure you know the 5th man too (an incredible drummer that i will be delighted to work with). I think you'll have to tune in to Robert's diary over at the DGM site and await the official announcement.

But I guess it isn't that dude from the Flower Kings.  Damn symphonic groups, always trying to pull the wool over our eyes...

I wish Bob would bring in a violin player, sax player or multi-instrumentalist. I don`t know if I could handle another album with him and Adrian just blasting away. Maybe even another vocalist. Bob has to make Crimson more interesting at this point.

I think I concur...but I feel like all that's been done with them (in his eyes)...chances are he's just going to stick the course and write more of the same...?

I'm thinking with the second drummer though, it might not be a drummer per se, more like what KTU's doing?...Time will tell...

Posted By: rileydog22
Date Posted: October 19 2007 at 15:11
It's definitely a drummer; read the above quote.

King Crimson has yet to produce an uninteresting album, and I don't think they're gonna start with this next one.

I just think that it would be an exciting break with some new instrument. I mean, he was doing this in the 70s all the way up until Red. I do think they are getting a bit stale. I just hope Bob doesn`t go senile.

Oh man, I was getting excited, but it's just a joke.

Zoltan is one of the best drummers I have ever heard, at least on the studio albums. The jazzy drumming in "Unfold The Future" from The Flower Kings is outstanding and his drumming in the new album is magnificent as well (if a bit more restrained)

I bet the second drummer is Danny Carey from Tool.

All are irrelevant. What's next, "bring back the mellotron"?

King Crimson is not a nostalgia act.

Well I wasn't going to say it, but I'm glad you did HH...btw, there's a new video interview up with Pat, and he says the new drummer is British, and not Bruford...I'm stumped as my guesses (Rieflin, Bozzio, or Morrota) aren't British...according to that ever credible source Wikipedia...

I suppose so!  But live, it's synth guitar...  strangely, I'm much more familiar with their live output, wonder why? Wink

I listen to live KC more than studio KC as well, but to say that they haven't returned to the mellotron is factually inaccurate.

No, seriously, I hope that they will bring out their new album in 2008. Unfortunately it seems that they are only going to play in America. Cry

This has been "officially denied" on the PT forum by the forum Admin guy Simon who also produces the PT Fanzine. When I say "official" I mean that he has the band's ear so to speak.

I did, as I thought that Gavin Harrison was one of the few current British drummers who is good enough to play for King Crimson and  given that both Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew have both worked with PT they'd both be well aware of his talents.
