I just bought this Greg Lake live CD with some solo tracks on it in addition to some old ELP tracks but haven't listened to it yet. I got it at a second hand shop out of the bargain bin for  $5.00 CAN! I'm listening to The Division Bell right now and will throw it on right after and let you know what I think.

Maybe we should include the bass intro to "The Barbarian"...seems I'm not the only one who thinks that's one of ELP's highlights.

Bought an ELP DVD the other week, expecting a live show from the Albert Hall, 1992..

Bit dissapointed. All interviews. Interesting enough I guess, but I really should read whats written on the back of a DVD before I buy it..

Heard snippets from 'Black moon' on there. Sounds pretty good, better than I would have expected, but then I'm no ELP expert. As with any prolific prog band, its quite a learning curve

I **LOVE** the bass entrance into "The Barbarian"... wish I had a sound bite of it. Actually wish I had a few more sound bites anyway.. I have one of Take a Pebble.. but for some reason it won't play in here...

Maybe someone can explain this to me since we`re on the ELP topic here. I`ve got a DVD by ELP called Welcome Back My Friends which contains a lot of live footage cumilating with a show at The Royal Albert Hall plus interviews. It looks like it coincided with the Black Moon release since it contains the video for Blood Money and some comments from greg Lake on what gave him the idea for the lyrics. Anyway at one point he appears wearing a track suit at what seems to be someone`s wedding reception in Italy. I guess if you`re Greg Lake you can attend a wedding in a track suit and get away with it without hearing from the in laws. Does anyone know what this was all about? There are a few weddings I`ve attended where I wished Icould wear a track suit.

Keith Emerson

Keith EmersonBorn: 1-Nov-1944
Birthplace: Todmorden, Lancashire, England

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Musician

Level of fame: Famous
Executive summary: Keyboardist for Emerson, Lake, and Palmer

One of the most recognizable names to emerge from the 1970's 'art rock'/'progressive'/'(insert ridiculous category here)' scene, Keith Emerson has been established as a virtuoso with keyboard-based instruments since the age of 14. He worked with a number of London-based bands throughout his teens before forming http://www.nndb.com/music/903/000036795/ - The Nice , which initially was just a backing band for singer http://www.nndb.com/people/840/000043711/ - P. P. Arnold . The group quickly outgrew its support role and split off on it's own, generating a great deal of notoriety through its performances in Europe and the U.S. - particularly because of Emerson, with his dynamic playing, bizarre stage antics and tight trousers.

After the Nice disbanded, silver-tongued Emerson lured both drummer http://www.nndb.com/people/947/000042821/ - Carl Palmer away from his successful gig with http://www.nndb.com/music/743/000039626/ - Atomic Rooster and singer http://www.nndb.com/people/681/000036573/ - Greg Lake away from a still-popular but internally-disintegrating http://www.nndb.com/music/984/000034882/ - King Crimson . The trio formed (wait for it) http://www.nndb.com/music/326/000035221/ - Emerson, Lake and Palmer , who would become arguably the biggest 'progressive' band of all time. With the undeniably prodigious skills of its participants to drawn on, ELP brought together a complex blend of Jazz, Rock and Classical styles into something that was, ultimately, entirely its own beast. The trio would also plumb the depths of ridiculous excess, and unfortunately it is the latter more than the former that has had the greater influence upon the rock genre - excessiveness being a far easier quality to develop than invention and talent.

ELP disbanded for the first time in 1979, and Emerson went on to pursue somewhat of a solo career and much more of a career in film sountracks. On two occasions during the 1980s he reunited with former bandmates - first to form an ELP with http://www.nndb.com/people/565/000025490/ - Cozy Powell as the new 'P', then with Palmer to form another trio inventively called http://www.nndb.com/music/658/000043529/ - 3 . The original trio finally came together again in 1991, only to disband after a 'farewell tour' in 1998. For a time, a nerve problem in his hand made Keith Emerson's musical future uncertain, but a surgical procedure in 1994 has apparently led to a full recovery.

Greg LakeBorn: 10-Nov-1948
Birthplace: Bournemouth, Dorset, England

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Musician

Level of fame: Somewhat
Executive summary: Emerson, Lake and Palmer

After working in various obscure bands, Greg Lake received his first taste of fame as singer and bassist with http://www.nndb.com/music/984/000034882/ - King Crimson . He left Crimson in 1970 to go on to even greater success with http://www.nndb.com/music/326/000035221/ - Emerson, Lake and Palmer , which has remained his primary musical vehicle.

Carl Palmer

Carl PalmerAKA Carl Frederick Kendall Palmer

Born: 20-Mar-1950
Birthplace: Birmingham, England

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Musician

Level of fame: Somewhat
Executive summary: Emerson, Lake and Palmer

Strongly influenced as a young player by http://www.nndb.com/people/973/000042847/ - Gene Krupa and http://www.nndb.com/people/974/000042848/ - Buddy Rich , Carl Palmer began his drumming career at the age of 14. His reputation was already firmly established by the time he joined his first notable band: Chris Farlowe and the Thunderbirds, which also included guitarist http://www.nndb.com/people/433/000043304/ - Alvin Lee and keyboard-player http://www.nndb.com/people/435/000043306/ - Dave Greenslade . This was followed by a difficult period working with http://www.nndb.com/music/167/000036059/ - The Crazy World of Arthur Brown , which led to the formation of Palmer's first successful band of his own, http://www.nndb.com/music/743/000039626/ - Atomic Rooster .

In 1970 Carl Palmer was inticed to leave his Rooster behind by http://www.nndb.com/people/436/000043307/ - Keith Emerson and http://www.nndb.com/people/681/000036573/ - Greg Lake , and the result was the most successful and enduring band of his career, http://www.nndb.com/music/326/000035221/ - Emerson, Lake and Palmer . ELP epitomized all that was both laudable and horrible of what became known as the 'progressive' rock genre: remarkable musicianship and adventurous arrangements mingled with overblown - sometimes completely ludicrous - excesses. The first gasp of the band lasted until 1979, with intermittent reunions taking place after 1991.

In the gaps between activity in ELP, Palmer has worked with a number of other contexts, the most successful of which was http://www.nndb.com/music/990/000034888/ - Asia - a band in which veterans from several of the most well-established 'progressive' acts of the 70s came together to find enormous mainstream popularity. Personnel struggles and changes in popular taste quickly let the air out of Asia'a balloon, however, although numerous reunions and disbandings have taken place since the first collapse in 1985.

PLEASE????????

I'll give you a promo shot, if you don't have one.  Why don't we get one from the 70s when a largest proportion of members here actually liked them..

How about this one...

Actually Greg was just visiting Juliet's House in Verona when he ran into a wedding party in the street.  They recognized him so he got to kiss the bride.  He wasn't invited to the wedding, so his track suit for a day of sight seeing and running around Verona was quite appropriate.

I guess if you`re Greg Lake you can attend a wedding in a track suit and get away with it without hearing from the in laws. Does anyone know what this was all about? There are a few weddings I`ve attended where I wished Icould wear a track suit.

Wish i could help you out but i've never heard of ELP

Maybe someone can explain this to me since we`re on the ELP topic here. I`ve got a DVD by ELP called Welcome Back My Friends which contains a lot of live footage cumilating with a show at The Royal Albert Hall plus interviews.
